Grad stories

I'm sleeping better, I'm happier and have more energy.

I've been walking every day with my dog or by myself with a book and doing strength training, which feels great. I've lost 7 pounds and have a better outlook because I don't have as much inflammation and fatigue.

A note from Jen

If you’re on the fence, I was too

Would the recipes actually be good? Would I just bounce right back to my old habits? Was it worth eating 100% plant-based for three weeks? Then about eight days in, I was hooked. Less bloated. Sleeping like a rock. Energy through the roof.

Most cleanses end and leave you exactly where you started — or worse, hooked on a product you have to rebuy. This one is different on purpose: you learn to cook real food, so you walk away with skills that don’t run out when the box is empty.

And if you’re nervous about the food? Remember — this is literally what I do. I make plant-based food that’s so good you forget it’s “healthy.” Because healthy should be tasty.

Common Questions

Will I be hungry while on a detox body cleanse?

Not likely. The recipe portions are deliberately generous to accommodate even the largest appetites. This is not a starvation diet, it is a celebration of food, flavor, and abundance. We are not counting calories. You will be eating three to five times each day (breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner, if you choose to.) This cleanse is not designed to starve you, and you’re not limited in the number of times you eat, or the amount you eat – only in what you eat. If you do get hunger pangs, make sure that you’re really hungry, and not just bored or thirsty. If it’s a case of real hunger, go for one of the bonus snack recipes, a piece of fruit, or a small handful of nuts, or seeds. One tip to avoid hunger is to chew your green smoothie. This may sound silly, but the chewing action signals your body that food is on the way, and triggers the digestive processes.

Do I need to buy any powders, shakes, or supplements?

Nope — and that’s the whole point. This cleanse runs entirely on real food you buy at your regular grocery store. No proprietary box, no capsules, no subscription. You’ll learn to cook with whole ingredients so your results actually last once the 21 days are up.

How much will the groceries cost on the 21-day cleanse?

You may have many of the staple ingredients in your kitchen already (avocado oil, raw cashews, maple syrup, ground cumin, nutritional yeast, coconut oil, etc). If you do not, the first shop typically costs about $150. Then, once your kitchen is set up, we estimate the cost of the produce to be between $100 per week. If you choose to supplement the plant-based recipes with high quality animal protein like organic chicken breast or cage free eggs, your grocery bill will be higher.

And remember — you’re buying real groceries, not a $400+ box of powders you’ll run out of. Most of this is food you’d be shopping for anyway, just put to much better use.

Can I have coffee and tea while cleansing?

If you struggle with getting quality sleep, we advise omitting coffee throughout the cleanse. You will get the best results and many cleanse grads choose to stay off coffee after the cleanse because they feel so great. If you and coffee aren’t ready to break up, we suggest having just one cup in the morning to support quality rest and sleep.

What if I can’t have certain nuts, veggies, fruits, etc.?

If you want the full benefit of cleansing your body, stick with the plan as close as possible. Our detox meals are crafted by our holistic nutritionist for optimal cleansing. This is not a vacation, it’s a cleanse. Yet of course if you truly cannot stand cilantro, turmeric or fennel, you can substitute them out for something you do enjoy, or choose another meal.

Can I go out to eat while cleansing?

Of course— life must go on! The 21-Day Cleanse is a flexible program that you can follow while living your life with family and friends. Using the weekly meal plans and recipes will help you get great results. But, you can still get good results by sticking to the recommended foods lists. You can eat “off meal plan”, eat out, and travel during the program— feel free to ask for tips inside the community to help you the most.

What are the side effects of the cleanse?

You may experience short-term symptoms like: headaches, bloating, muscle cramps, skin irritations, fatigue, irritability, mood swings, or change in bowel frequency. These symptoms are completely normal and expected.

It usually takes between 2-5 days to complete the withdrawal phase of the 21-Day Cleanse, yet it’s absolutely worth it. Giving your body a break from stimulants will allow your organs to heal and your body to recharge fully. Remember, these symptoms are proof that the cleanse is working and your body is getting the care it needs.

How long does the food prep take?

You’ll definitely spend more time in the kitchen throughout the cleanse. In some ways, this is like a crash course plant-based cooking school. I highly suggest following our prep guide to make most of the smoothies, snacks and meals over the weekend. Breakfast is a smoothie (10 minutes), lunch is a reheated soup or quick salad (15 minutes) and dinners will range from 15 minutes – 1 hour to prepare. The good news is, the dinners repeat so you make once and reheat for another evening to give you a break in the kitchen.

I have a crazy busy schedule, is this realistic for me?

We know all about busy schedules here, which is why we’ve provided a weekend prep guide that saves you tons of time during the week. If you’re working and have a full schedule, expect to spend 3-4 hours shopping and prepping on the weekends to make each cleanse week stress-free and enjoyable. The cleanse gives you a wonderful opportunity to really listen to your body. It’s an individual experience that differs for everyone. Depending on the level of toxicity in your body, there may be some less- than-amazing symptoms in the first 3–5 days, such as headaches, nausea, fatigue, skin irritations, etc. Once you hit day five, these should only be distant memories, and you’ll be well on your way to greatness. But some people sail through the entire cleansing period with no side effects at all. You may feel amazing throughout the entire cleanse, or your energy may wax and wane a little.

Who shouldn’t do a cleanse?

This cleanse is great for most people, yet you should avoid cleansing in the following situations: advanced cancer, under 16 years of age, if you have an eating disorder, kidney or liver disease, and if you’re underweight. If you have a blood sugar regulation issue (diabetes, hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia) or any other medical condition, you should seek your doctor’s advice before undertaking a cleanse. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you can absolutely do the cleanse with some modifications. If this is you, let us know and we can give you specific tweaks to the program to make sure you’re benefitting your baby and body.

Can I workout during the cleanse?

You may find that you have more energy than normal—and more motivation! Why waste it? Get moving! Be mindful that you may need to take it down a notch though as your body adjust to the new way of eating. If you normally exercise fairly intensely, reduce your output until you feel strong and energized.

If you don’t normally work out, you would do well to include some regular walking, yoga, swimming or gardening during this time. Try to sneak in some incidental exercise, such as getting off the train or bus one or two stops early and walking the rest of the way. Or park further away from the entrance to the grocery store and walk.

Can my husband do this with me?

Absolutely. My husband loves our cleanses — the clear plans, the tasty recipes, and how good he feels by the end. Just double the grocery list and recipes so there’s enough for you both.

What is your refund policy?

We offer a 7-day money back guarantee. Enroll now and get 7 days to go through the Week 1 Nutrition Plan, share it with your doctor, try a recipe or three, and say hello to your fellow cleansers in the private support group. If you decide it’s not for you, send us an email within 7 days of purchase and I’ll refund you. I’m that confident that when you commit to this cleanse, you’ll see results… and keep them going. You have nothing to lose but so much to gain when you go plant-based for 21 days.

After 3 weeks of vacation, with too much of everything, we decided to try the the cleanse. The first few days were tough – I am used to daily coffee – but by day 4, my energy levels were up, I felt less bloated, and I was proud that we were able to stick with it. I do feel as if adding a day back into my normal schedule, especially after a weekend of travel or “bad habits” will be something I continue to do. And I will definitely incorporate most of the dinners into my regular rotation. Over the course of the 7 days, I lost about 4.5 pounds, was in less of a fog, and while my energy levels were not through the roof, I felt more energized when I woke up. I do think one of the downsides was that I did not feel as if I was able to stick to my normal workout routine – just not enough energy at the end of the day to give it my all – but I finally realized I just needed to add another fruit or veggie snack into the mix.

Summer Cleanse

I highly enjoyed the cleanse and encourage anyone to try it if they want to help kick cravings for sugar, salt, or reduce inflammation. I decided to do the cleanse as I had fallen into bad eating habits and found myself constantly craving sweets and highly processed foods and needed a reset. Although I had completed the 10-day salad challenge easily, I found the actual cleanse week this year more difficult for some reason. I thought the prep and meals were very easy to prepare and the food was tasty, but I found I missed the beans and grains this time. Being part of the community helped work through this and I enjoyed seeing the various recipe modifications and how others worked through any issues they were having. I love how Jen uses all the groceries throughout the week or items are used early in the next week, a great help for me and prevented lots of waste. I stuck to the cleanse as close as I could and lost 8 pounds, I’m sleeping better through the night, inflammation has decreased, and I’m not craving salty or sugary foods. My husband had pizza last night so I tried a piece, I was really surprised to find I didn’t enjoy it at all as I thought it tasted much too salty! Enjoyed my marinated celery salad much more. I’m thrilled and very appreciative that Jen provided the maintenance plan for All Access members too!! Optimistic that the maintenance plan will help me continue to learn to more easily plan plantbased meals. Looking forward to keeping the momentum going!

Spring Cleanse

I am a very active mother of 2 and always considered myself to be healthy. After doing this cleanse I truly know what it means to eat CLEAN! I was in a rut and didn’t even know it until I started this cleanse. It got me back in the kitchen and taught me how to cook delicious foods when I would normally just make a salad. I felt so alive on this cleanse. I’m so thankful for SGS and will be doing every cleanse they offer!!! 😄

I am a breast cancer survivor over 65 who although active, just could never seem to lose weight. I occasionally felt bloated and had issues with the food I ate. I was also a very picky eater. I tried the 30 day smoothie challenge and loved it. I was so proud to have completed it and when the 21 day Spring Cleanse came I decided to join. I loved eating the plant based meals. Learned a lot of foods I wouldn’t eat before actually tasted good. I had a chance to try things I would have never eaten because I made a commitment to myself. So I lost 10 lbs and plenty of inches. I continue to have my smoothies as well as sticking to a mostly plant based diet, no more bloating unless I eat bread or white rice! So it also taught me great foods to eat but also got me more in touch with my body! I love being part of the Support group as we get to share questions and support each other. This is one of the best things I have done for myself and I tell everyone who will listen.

Spring Cleanse

I have always wanted to try a cleanse or fast but I get sick if I don’t eat so the the cleanse intrigued me because I COULD eat. I turned 60 this year and I’m aware more than ever how precious my health is to continue doing all the hiking, biking, running, etc. that I love. It took me a couple months of “mind the cleanse” to get ready for this body the cleanse, but then I was all in! I eat pretty healthy, very little meat, no soda or coffee, but love my chai latte in the morning, glass of red wine at dinner and Good and Plenty at night! So, I had a few vices to give up but it was surprisingly easy once I got started (I did eliminate or cut back the week before). My only withdrawal symptom was the nagging headache days 2-4, but Jen’s email on day 4 reminded me this was normal. The shopping and prep work were fun! It cost me about $200 for food, but I didn’t find that excessive as I didn’t spend money going out all week (we figured we saved money!). I did some prep, but since I’m retired and home, I enjoyed the cooking each day. If I was working though, the prep work is brilliantly organized and would be very important to make this work. What was amazing is the fact that I was almost never hungry! I’m not a grazer so eating 5 times a day was different. I actually skipped the afternoon snack 2 days and the evening drink 3 nights. Otherwise, I followed the plan to the letter. I can’t rave enough about the taste of the food I prepared! IT WAS DELICIOUS! I loved trying different foods (cauliflower rice and swoodles!), methods of cooking and putting different tastes together that worked. The final result was losing 3.5 pounds (of the 5 I gained after my husband retired!), feeling myself get rid of years of accumulated yuck and learning that I could give up my vices and treat my body to a fresh start. What I will take away from this amazing journey is the fact that I’m darn proud of myself for being good to ME. My husband was so supportive, tasted just about everything and is more that willing to incorporate it all into our daily lives. Some of my favorites: I have a difficult time “drinking” my meals, so while I enjoyed the flavors of all the smoothies, I loved the smoothie bowls or adding fruit I could munch on while drinking my smoothie (opened up a whole new smoothie mindset). The snacks…OH the snacks! Warm apple crisp (WOW), the Savory Trail Mix (that will become a staple), Tropical Avo salad (coolest mix of flavors ever!), Thai almond dip (I will serve this as an appetizer for guests) and the Winter Ambrosia Salad (had to take the bowl away from my husband before he ate it all!). The Cashew Cream had to be the biggest surprise. To compare it to plain yogurt was perfect, but all the ways it was used was ingenious and delicious! As for the dinners they were all so good, but if I had to pick favorites it would be the Spiralized Taco Salad (this was so much fun to make) and the Mushroom Stuffed Sweet Potato, but only because I’m crazy about sweet potatoes, mushrooms and Mexican food! And that cauliflower rice! That will become another staple! The food taught me so much about different ways to cook, prepare, season and put together plant based meals and I’m excited to learn more. I appreciated so many aspects of this the cleanse, but especially how the “whys” were explained. Learning to take care of our bodies is so much easier when you understand why a food, drink or seasoning benefits. THANK YOU Jen and the Rawkstar team for putting together this incredible program. I look forward to trying others!

Winter Cleanse

Two years ago, my son had introduced us to SimpleGreenSmoothies with his morning green smoothies every morning before going to work. We loved it!…. And then he left the house to live on his own. It took me some months to come back to this good habit after reading the book of a famous French naturopath, Irene Grosjean. It really made me want to slowly change my diet to a more healthy one. the cleanse a challenge. was the perfect to start. It was so much fun with a lot of good tips. The recipes are yummy 😋 and I never felt hungry…. In fact more likely the opposite. It is amazing how full you can get from nuts, greens and vegetables only.. I highly recomnand you to try for yourself. So much good 😛 So much fun 😝 Looking forward to a new challenge with SimpleGreenSmoothies 🌱🌷

This cleanse was amazing! I was stuck in a huge rut of cravings of chocolate and junk food and by the third day by body was starting to eliminate the bad foods and feel better. The Autumn detox if full of delicious whole foods and easy to prep meals. I was worried about all the fat at first, but it made me feel so satiated and I ended up losing 10 pounds which I have been able to keep off. I can’t wait to do this cleanse again and still like to implement the recipes into my everyday life. Worth the investment.

We are getting married in September and my hubby and I wanted to lose weight for the wedding. I also liked the thought of not having body aches all the time. I lost 10lbs in 3 weeks! My soon to be hubby lost 12lbs! I have arthritis in my foot and the pain this usually causes from walking has more or less disappeared. Incredible! This cleanse is amazing! I definitely feel like I have more energy. We loved all the meals (except the teas!), super tasty and the marinades/sauces really make the meals pop. I’ve never cooked so much with fresh herbs, but would like to do this in future. I’ve definitely got my money’s worth on my blender! The amount of cooking and prep is a lot and felt like a full time job. But the motivation of how good the meals are for you, and watching the pounds drop really pushes you through the many hours in the kitchen on a Sunday!

I had been slowly shifting my diet to more plant based but not getting results I wanted. I decided to give this cleanse a try and am so glad I did! I think what helped me stick with it was the prep help: the grocery list to get me organized, the prep guide to give me a heads start on my weeks, and the easy to follow recipes. I work late in the evenings and had a bad habit of grabbing a not so healthy snack to keep me going – during the cleanse I found I wasn’t looking for that late night snack! It isn’t the end of the cleanse and I’m down 6 pounds and more importantly have more go-to meals to have on hand every week!

In theory I liked this process. It definitely helped me reconnect with food and be more mindful about what I ate, and I saw positive results both physically and mentally. However, I found the grocery shopping challenging and expensive, and flipping back and forth in the PDF was a total, total pain. I wasn’t wild about some of the recipes either, but generally didn’t realize that until after I’d spent time buying and prepping food. Oh yeah, the food prep took a hella long time too.
