Ingredients You’ll Need
I love the variety of ingredients in this green apple smoothie recipe. Each one has a unique purpose whether it is fiber, vitamins, minerals, sweetener or healthy fat.
- Avocado: When it comes to avocados, the creamier, the better! Look for ones that give just a little when you gently squeeze them—perfect for adding richness to your smoothie. They’re easy to find in the produce section, but if they’re not quite ripe, just let them sit on your counter for a couple of days.
- Spinach: Don’t worry—this green powerhouse blends right in! Spinach has a mild flavor, so you won’t even notice it’s there. I like to grab baby spinach for a slightly sweeter taste, but any fresh spinach will work. Look for those vibrant green leaves.
- Green Apple: Tart and crisp, green apples like Granny Smith add the perfect contrast to the creamy avocado and banana. They also pack a punch of fiber! If you’re feeling adventurous, swap in any apple you love—you really can’t go wrong here.
- Banana: Here’s where the sweetness comes in! I love using bananas for their natural sweetness, and the best part is you can choose how sweet you want it—riper bananas give a sweeter flavor, while greener bananas are a bit lower in sugar. Both fresh and frozen work like a charm!
- Pineapple (Frozen): Nothing says tropical like pineapple, right? I always keep a bag of frozen pineapple on hand. It’s perfect for that refreshing pop of flavor. If you’re lucky enough to have fresh pineapple, grab one that smells sweet at the base and has a little give when you press it.

How to Make a Green Apple Smoothie
Glow from the inside out with this healthy green apple spinach smoothie. It’s a tasty way to enjoy a nutrition-packed snack.
- Blend water, spinach, and green apple together in a high-speed blender to ensure the leafy greens break down completely for a smooth consistency. If you’re using a less powerful blender, blend a bit longer to achieve the desired texture.
- Add the banana, avocado, and frozen pineapple. These ingredients will create a rich, creamy texture, perfect for this green apple smoothie recipe. Blend again until everything is fully combined and the smoothie has a silky, smooth finish.
- Adjust the consistency as needed by adding water for a thinner smoothie or ice cubes for a thicker texture.
substitutions
If green apples are unavailable, you can substitute with yellow or light red apples without compromising flavor. For a low-sugar option, swap the banana for ¼ cup of frozen cauliflower, which will still maintain the smoothie’s creaminess.

Tips for Blending Apples
- Using a high-powered blender means there’s no need to peel the apple. Just core the apple first and blend until smooth.
- If you’re using a standard blender, it’s better to core, peel, and finely dice the apple for the best results.
- If the smoothie has an applesauce-like, blend it a bit longer to get smoother consistency. You can also add a few ice cubes for a refreshing chill.
- Adding avocado helps achieve a creamier texture when blending apples.

Notes
- For added convenience, look for frozen avocado, banana and spinach in the freezer section of most grocery stores.
- If green apples are hard to find, use yellow or light red.
- To lower the natural sugar, swap banana for 1/4 cup frozen cauliflower.
- Turn this into a meal replacement by adding in my protein powder recipe.

Yes! While tart green apples give this smoothie a refreshing, crisp flavor, you can swap in sweeter apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji) if you prefer a less tangy taste.
To make it more filling, blend in a scoop of your favorite plant-based protein powder, collagen, hemp seeds, or Greek yogurt. This turns it into a powerhouse breakfast or post-workout snack.
You can blend it up to 24 hours in advance and store it in the fridge in a sealed jar. Just give it a shake before drinking. For the freshest flavor, I recommend freezing prepped smoothie packs and blending right before serving.
This smoothie is ok. I’m not sure why I don’t like it as well as the others- it could be the avocado or the protein powder. My protein powder doesn’t have much flavor. It’s fairly refreshing and I like it well enough to drink, but wouldn’t put this on my permanent smoothie rotation.
Thanks for the feedback, Mandy!
I found this one a little underwhelming, maybe it’s to much water for me.
You can try to reduce the water next time, if it turned out too watery for you!
Love these smoothies they help keep me full through out the day❣️❣️
So glad you’re loving the smoothies, Tammy!
This is better than you’d think! The apple brings a nice brightness for sure.
I’d say use a half avocado instead of just the quarter so you get more of that satisfying and nourishing fat and omega 3s.
P.s. the amount of adds on this site is making leaving a comment via my phone (Google, Android) really glitchy. Maybe there’s a workaround?
The more nourishing the better, Laura!!
This was another great smoothie!! Flavors all blended nicely together.
Thanks so much, Denise!
Love Day 4’s Green Apple Smoothie. The bright, crisp notes of the apple shine through the spinach and the homemade protein powder. The color is vibrant, and the texture is smooth and almost fluffy thanks to the bit of avocado and banana. My head loves the nutritional value and my heart and tastebuds love the drinkable Jolly Rancher in my glass! Go Green .. apple!
Jolly rancher in a glass is right, JuJu!
I had to add ice cubes to this one to make it cold. Very thick and creamy one. I have a feeling this one will really keep me full for a good while!!
Great idea, Alanna!
Surprised that this wasn’t as cold as the others! Next time, I think I’ll use frozen banana. Nice taste. With the protein powder, these smoothies really fill me up!
Frozen bananas are my favorite way to chill a smoothie, Lee Ann!
It’s ok. Not a lot of flavor. I’m not a big apple smoothie person.
Definitely understand not everyone loves apple smoothie, Faith!
Loved it. But I used what I had on hand so another banana instead of 1/2 avocado, subbed 1/2 kale
for some of the spinach and used gala apples .
Sounds like it still turned out great, Amy!
I’ve never blended an apple or avocado in my smoothie. I can taste the apple a little. It’s different. Not bad just different.
This recipe is definitely a good intro into adding apple into smoothies, Gloria!
I really enjoyed this smoothie. Green apples are my favorite so was eager to try this one:)
I bought a bag of avocados, mashed and froze scoops ahead of time so it is super easy to add to smoothies. Love the creaminess the avocado adds to the smoothie. Definitely a keeper recipe for this household.
I’m a green apple person too, Pamela! I think it’s why I love this one so much!
I really liked the apple flavor in this one. It seemed to come our a little more than flavors un the other smoothies. The sweetness of the banana and pineapple with tartness of the apple was perfect.
The apple is definitely the star of this show!
I love that the heart healthy avocado was used as an ingredient for this smoothie. Another great use to have avocado for breakfast. It had a nice creamy texture!
The avocado def makes this one super creamy!
I love the fact that avocado is used in this smoothie. Another use for avocado for breakfast. The texture was nice and creamy
The more uses for avocado the better right, Susan!?
Enjoyed the flavors of this smoothie. Mine came out slightly too thick, so I believe having a high powered blender that blends well is key for this smoothie.
Hi Krystal! If you’re feeling like it’s too thick, you can always add a tad more liquid if needed.
