Ingredients You’ll Need
I love the variety of ingredients in this green apple smoothie recipe. Each one has a unique purpose whether it is fiber, vitamins, minerals, sweetener or healthy fat.
- Avocado: When it comes to avocados, the creamier, the better! Look for ones that give just a little when you gently squeeze them—perfect for adding richness to your smoothie. They’re easy to find in the produce section, but if they’re not quite ripe, just let them sit on your counter for a couple of days.
- Spinach: Don’t worry—this green powerhouse blends right in! Spinach has a mild flavor, so you won’t even notice it’s there. I like to grab baby spinach for a slightly sweeter taste, but any fresh spinach will work. Look for those vibrant green leaves.
- Green Apple: Tart and crisp, green apples like Granny Smith add the perfect contrast to the creamy avocado and banana. They also pack a punch of fiber! If you’re feeling adventurous, swap in any apple you love—you really can’t go wrong here.
- Banana: Here’s where the sweetness comes in! I love using bananas for their natural sweetness, and the best part is you can choose how sweet you want it—riper bananas give a sweeter flavor, while greener bananas are a bit lower in sugar. Both fresh and frozen work like a charm!
- Pineapple (Frozen): Nothing says tropical like pineapple, right? I always keep a bag of frozen pineapple on hand. It’s perfect for that refreshing pop of flavor. If you’re lucky enough to have fresh pineapple, grab one that smells sweet at the base and has a little give when you press it.

How to Make a Green Apple Smoothie
Glow from the inside out with this healthy green apple spinach smoothie. It’s a tasty way to enjoy a nutrition-packed snack.
- Blend water, spinach, and green apple together in a high-speed blender to ensure the leafy greens break down completely for a smooth consistency. If you’re using a less powerful blender, blend a bit longer to achieve the desired texture.
- Add the banana, avocado, and frozen pineapple. These ingredients will create a rich, creamy texture, perfect for this green apple smoothie recipe. Blend again until everything is fully combined and the smoothie has a silky, smooth finish.
- Adjust the consistency as needed by adding water for a thinner smoothie or ice cubes for a thicker texture.
substitutions
If green apples are unavailable, you can substitute with yellow or light red apples without compromising flavor. For a low-sugar option, swap the banana for ¼ cup of frozen cauliflower, which will still maintain the smoothie’s creaminess.

Tips for Blending Apples
- Using a high-powered blender means there’s no need to peel the apple. Just core the apple first and blend until smooth.
- If you’re using a standard blender, it’s better to core, peel, and finely dice the apple for the best results.
- If the smoothie has an applesauce-like, blend it a bit longer to get smoother consistency. You can also add a few ice cubes for a refreshing chill.
- Adding avocado helps achieve a creamier texture when blending apples.

Notes
- For added convenience, look for frozen avocado, banana and spinach in the freezer section of most grocery stores.
- If green apples are hard to find, use yellow or light red.
- To lower the natural sugar, swap banana for 1/4 cup frozen cauliflower.
- Turn this into a meal replacement by adding in my protein powder recipe.

Yes! While tart green apples give this smoothie a refreshing, crisp flavor, you can swap in sweeter apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji) if you prefer a less tangy taste.
To make it more filling, blend in a scoop of your favorite plant-based protein powder, collagen, hemp seeds, or Greek yogurt. This turns it into a powerhouse breakfast or post-workout snack.
You can blend it up to 24 hours in advance and store it in the fridge in a sealed jar. Just give it a shake before drinking. For the freshest flavor, I recommend freezing prepped smoothie packs and blending right before serving.
The avocado and banana made it very creamy. I think I would put some ginger in this one next time.
Let me know how it turns out if you try it with ginger, Liz!
I found this smoothie didn’t have much flavor. I would try it again and add a bit more pineapple and maybe a more flavorful apple.
You could also try sweetening it with dates if you give this one another try!
A good combo, tart if you add the green apple, sweet if you add a red.
You’re so right, Jenn!
This was surprisingly good. I liked the apple flavor and that it wasn’t overwhelming. And the avocado made it creamy.
You’re right, Katie! The avocado really ups the creaminess in this one.
The taste of the smoothie is okay, but I don’t like the texture of the smoothie. I did use a frozen banana to try to make the smoothie a little more frozen, but it didn’t help. I look forward to trying other smoothie recipes and I liked the first three in the challenge.
The apple definitely makes this smoothie texture different than the others!
Very good, but not one of my favorites.
It definitely depends on what type of smoothies you like, Mary!
This smoothie is my all-time favourite. I used it as a late afternoon pick me up. So filling.
Love to hear this one is your all-time favorite, Hilgay!
This smoothie tastes good but also very similar to the other smoothies as far as taste. I’m just happy that I’m doing something good for my body!
You’re rawkin’ it, Carolyn!
Very delicious. I had a bite of the green apple before it went into the blender and was thinking this is going to not be very good but the other ingredients gave it just the right amount of sweetness. I enjoyed this drink very much.
So glad you enjoyed this one, Mary!
This is our favorite smoothie so far. The apples added so much fall flavor. I’m also looking forward to making the Apple Pie Smoothie. Thank you for all the other information on the site!
If you liked this one I def think you’ll like the Apple Pie Smoothie, Pat!
This was not my favorite smoothie, but I did love the green apple flavor. I added a little agave to sweeten it up a bit. I think my banana and avocado were not quite ripe. I will try this again and I think some lime juice will brighten it up too!
Agave was a great idea, Melissa!
Tastes good! I need just a little more sweetness so I added a couple of pitted dates again!
Day 4 done!
Dates are a great way to sweeten this one, Leeanna!
While I really enjoy the tart flavor of this smoothie, the texture is not my favorite. It doesn’t have a lot of frozen ingredients. That along with the fresh apple crest more of an applesauce/purée type texture.
The apple definitely makes it a different texture than the other smoothies!
Refreshing Green Apple Bliss Smoothie
This smoothie I must say, it’s a game-changer in the world of healthy beverages. Packed with wholesome ingredients like spinach, apple, banana, avocado, and pineapple, this smoothie offers a delightful fusion of flavors and a burst of nutrition.
Upon the first sip, I was pleasantly surprised by the harmonious blend of fresh, natural ingredients. The apple contributes a hint of tartness, balancing out the overall sweetness of the drink, and the creamy texture from the avocado gives the smoothie a velvety, luxurious consistency.
What sets this smoothie apart is not just its delicious taste, but also its health benefits. Spinach, a powerhouse of nutrients, offers an abundance of vitamins and minerals, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to boost their immune system. The addition of avocado provides healthy fats, making the smoothie satisfying and filling, perfect for a quick and nutritious snack or breakfast.
