When we eat junk, sleep less and sit more, the metabolism will slow down (and the scale starts to go up). I use my Metabolism Boosting Tea on my Plant-Based Cleanse to naturally suppress hunger, boost hydration and kick-start the fat-burning process.
When trying to shed a few pounds, I encourage you to drink this Metabolism Tea 1-2 times a day. It has all the fresh, raw ingredients needed to activate your metabolic system, naturally.

How to Use Metabolism Tea
To get your metabolism ramped up, you just need what we’ve always needed: rest, nutrient-dense foods that boost your metabolism and movement. This is how our bodies are meant to function and thrive.
When you get back to these three essentials, you’re practicing self-care and your body will begin to heal itself. Sometimes that means more energy, weight loss, clear skin, fewer aches, etc— but no matter what it’s going to be feeling better than it does right now.
Best time to drink
The best time to have Metabolism Tea is upon rising as it will activate your digestive system and help relieve any bloating or digestive concerns. Once the tonic settles in, it’ll get your metabolism burn happening as well.
As the day goes on and you’re feeling hungry in between meals, sip this before you have a snack. Sometimes hunger is actually your body telling you it’s thirsty (the wires do often get crossed in our minds).
Can I make it in Bulk?
You can make this in bulk (omit the water) and freeze into ice cube trays. Then in the morning, pop one cube into a mug with hot water (or enjoy it cold in the summer). Doing this will set you up for that success you crave and get you on the road to lower weight + increased energy.
Powerful Ingredients in Metabolism Tea
Let’s be honest. When you’re just started out with a healthier diet, it’s much easier to incorporate something healthy to drink than trying to cook a new meal. This drink isn’t the cure all, but it will support you on this wellness journey thanks to these awesome ingredients:
- Apple cider vinegar – or ACV to its closest friends – contains something called acetic acid. While research is still being done to see how this is helpful, initial studies show that acetic acid reduces insulin levels, which in turn ramps up your metabolism.
- Lemon: Lemon contains various polyphenols that can suppress our appetite.
- Ginger root: This inflammation fighting root vegetable helps heal your body from the inside out.
- Cinnamon: Cinnamon has a direct tie to our metabolism and can target the fat deposited in the abdominal area.
- Honey: Using a natural sweeteners makes this drink delicious while also adding beneficial anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial agents.
More Foods to Increase Metabolism and Burn Fat
Getting a healthy amount of leafy greens, legumes, proteins, vegetables and fruits is essential to supporting the metabolism. Slow-burning carbohydrates will help you maintain a stable metabolic rate and keep you active and nourished throughout the day.
Stick with foods like…
- Green apples + homemade nut butter
- Veggie bowls like a Teriyaki bowl using a brown rice or quinoa base
- Spicy roasted cauliflower wings and cashew cream
- Hearty kale caesar salad with nuts (or eggs)
- Vegan Austinite tacos packed with veggies
Refined sugars and simple starches do the opposite, spiking insulin production and throwing the whole system out of whack. This can cause the metabolism to slow down and to store sugar as fat rather than burning it as energy. Yet it’s not easy to say no to them, so I prefer the method of adding in more good stuff so it crowds out the bad.
Bottom line: A plant-based whole-food diet is going to do your metabolism some serious good.
I hope I’ve inspired you to try this simple morning routine to kick start your weight loss journey. Set goals beyond pants size or pounds— running a 5k, hiking a trail, running the Grand Canyon, kayaking with your kids, dancing with your loved ones— allow your weight loss success to just be a launching pad to a more active energized version of you.

Metabolism Tea FAQs
Green tea is a popular one for boosting metabolism because it contains natural caffeine to energize the body as well as antioxidants called catechins that may help increase the metabolism and burn fat.
The caffeine in tea can help speed up your metabolism and the antioxidants in certain teas can help burn fat. My tea is caffeine free (so never fear if you are caffeine sensitive!) yet it still contains several ingredients to speed up your metabolism and help burn fat.
Find a tea that can give you natural energy without a crash and one that helps your body burn fat. My tea contains apple cider vinegar, honey, lemon, ginger root, cinnamon and cayenne pepper— all ingredients to naturally help your metabolism.

Good morning Jen,
When I received your note in the mail yesterday and read the ingredients I immediately fell in love with the list because it is everything I like in my drink. I got so excited that I pre-prepared my things over night for a well synchronize taste. This morning I simply pour the warm water into is, and as I sipped it I felt my “heavenly day” has started. I started my day on a very good note knowing that, I am drinking what I enjoy first thing in the morning.
Thank you so much for putting this together. I brought it to work, and put more warm water in the left over, strain it and now finishing it little by little. I so much enjoyed this. Think you so much. :):):):):):)
That is so great Deborah! Sounds like you already have a great routine going. Your body will thank you for it!!
Loved it–I wasn’t sure at first about the cayenne pepper and ginger in the morning, but the combination of all of the flavors was wonderful!
SO glad you enjoyed it, Christine!
Tried this tea this morning and was pleasantly surprised by the taste! Delish! I will definitely be working this into my daily routine! Thank you!
Hey Emily,
I am so happy that you enjoyed this recipe!
WOW! I love the tea especially the ginger! I am eager to drink it every morning.
Yay!! SO happy that you love our Metabolism Tea recipe so much!!
I was surprised that I actually liked the taste. I’ve I have tried many different ways to consume apple cider vinegar and it usually ruins the taste of whatever I put in it, for me, other than salad dressing but in this concoction I guess the honey and the lemon really mask the taste of the vinegar. I only used 1 tablespoon not 2. I find the drink very tasty but a bit on the strong side so for me I need to add more water.
Hey Ania,
I am so glad that you made this tea work for you!
Good recipe. Easy to make with ingredients on hand. I’ve heard a lot about drinking vinegar, etc., to boost metabolism, but it’s just too hard for me to enjoy the taste. The ginger kills me. I don’t think I can actually drink this consistently. Worth a try though! Thank you.
We hope you do give it a try. The benefits of this drink it totally worth it. You can even add in less of the ginger and ACV until your taste buds are use to it. Then slowly add in more if you continue to drink it.
I want to thank you, I have printed it out and I will be making this, this weekend. I have so much going on with my body and saying up is one of them I no that my Metabolism is all over the place and It’s a must I correct it, so again thank you.
You are welcome, Cenia! We cannot wait to hear how your body feels after drinking this 🙂
Was a little nervous about how this would taste and am happy to say it tastes good! Are you supposed to drink all the shredded ginger? I’m interested to see how I’ll feel after drinking this a few times.
Hey Liz,
We recommend eating all the shredded ginger but we know some people that is too much for them. So feel free to leave that in your glass if you need to.
Enjoy!!
Enjoyed drinking this metabolism tea! At first I didnt think I would love it but decided to try it for my health. Wow,it tastes great! The spicyness is balanced by the sweet sour taste of the honey, apple cider and calamansi ( I”m from the Philippines and what i have in my ref is calamansi instead of lemon). Waiting to see it’s effect as the day goes on. This is really a thumbs up Jen! Thanks for sharing!
So happy that you loved this recipe! Your body is really going to thank you for it.
This is something I just can’t learn to love. It’s the ginger. It makes my face look like that pucker face emoji. (I don’t like ginger, as much as I try to because I know it’s so good for your gut). So I try it without the ginger and it’s just too.. I don’t know. I’ve forced it down but it’s not my fave.
Hey Beth,
I would try adding a lot less of the ginger and maybe over time start adding in a little more each day. That way you will slowly get used to it. Hope that helps!
Thank you – thank you for helping me get started – I printed your recipe and will start tomorrow AM. Do I drink this everyday? Best, Susan
Hey Susan,
We are so excited that you are giving this a try. Your body will thank you for it! Yes, you can drink this every day if you feel like you need it!
It’s difficult to consume these types of body warming drinks when you have hot flashes 🙁
I make Switchel and keep it in the fridge, It’s the same thing only better because the ginger ferments and adds probiotics on top of everything else. I use half blackstrap molasses and half raw honey, filtered water, ACV and ginger. Then a splash of Lime juice to round it out. SUPER refreshing in the summer and all year long. I keep a quart jar going constantly in the fridge.
Like all these other “Metabolism” boosters, they really don’t work that way, but it does provide nutrients, especially when you use the molasses.
Even Cayenne pepper does nothing for the metabolism. Getting your heart rate up from pepper isn’t the same thing.
I do drink warm lemon juice with a splash of cayenne in it now and then but that too, does nothing for your metabolism.
Thanks for all the great recipes and such Jen!!
You RAWK!!
I was nervous to try this, but I had all the ingredients on hand and just made it for myself… really good! Hope to see some good results after a week of doing this.
Hey Dani,
We are so happy that even though you were nervous you still gave it a try. Your body will definitely thank you for it!!
This is one of those recipes that you will use for the rest of your life. Whenever I get in a junk food funk, I use this to kick start my healthy eating journey again. ACV, lemon and ginger are my jam!
Make this tonic 5 days a week 🙂
That is awesome Bonnie!!!
