What’s in this Probiotic Smoothie?

Fasten your seatbelts! You’re not gonna believe this…there are only 3 ingredients in this smoothie! It doesn’t get any easier than that, right? Read on to see why I love each of the ingredients in this simplistic summer peach probiotic smoothie so very much.

Spinach adds fiber and phytonutrients

Spinach is so versatile when it comes to neutral flavors in smoothies. That’s why we’ve included it here. Anytime you can add a little extra boost of vitamins and minerals, fiber, and other nutrients into your day is plus.

Spinach is chock full of iron, vitamins A, C, and K, and loads of dietary fiber to keep your tummy happy. I love to blend mid-morning, since I’m opting for healthy coffee first thing. Or sometimes I’ll rawk this probiotic smoothie as an afternoon snack. Honestly, any time of day is great for this chilled summertime treat.

Probiotics help the gut

This Probiotic Smoothie is a little different than my typical green smoothie recipesโ€” thanks to the kombucha. I use kombucha here for a very important reason. Kombucha is rich in enzymes and probiotics due to the natural fermentation process. It works much in the same way you may already know yogurt does for your digestion.

Keeping our digestive tract in tip-top shape is key to overall good health. Kombucha is made from fermented black, green, or white tea that is sweetened with sugar which feeds the culture, known as a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). I like to make my own kombucha (it’s really easy), but I also like to buy new flavors at the store too.

My favorite store-bought brands of kombucha are:

  • Health-Ade: Passion Fruit-Tangerine
  • GTS Living Food: Gingerade
  • Suja: Peach Kombucha
  • GTS Living Foods: Watermelon Wonder

bowl of fresh peaches.

Peaches add a creamy sweetness

Last up on the ingredient list for this Probiotic Smoothie? Peaches of course! When it comes to fruits for blending, I. love. peaches! Like a lot. They are summer’s best fruit, in my not-so-humble opinion. Nothing beats a good peach. Plus, they are lower on the GI scale, which also helps your gut. (High sugar, refined foods are hard on your gut.)

More Flavor Suggestions

A recipe like this can go so many different ways and be amazing. As a result, here are a few other recipes I’ve played with and enjoyed:

  • Ginger kombucha + pineapple
  • Watermelon kombucha + strawberries
  • Passion Fruit kombucha + peaches
2 glass jars of homemade kombucha covered with cheese cloth.

Probiotic Smoothie FAQs

Are probiotic smoothies good for you?

The answer to that is a big kale yeah! Probiotics contain all kinds of health benefits because of their pro-gut bacteria. Balancing the good and bad bacteria levels in your gut helps to strengthen your immune system, improves digestion and can even lead to weight loss.

Is it okay to take probiotics every day?

For sure! Probiotics can be found in all kinds of yummy fermented foods and drinks like yogurt, kimchi, kefir and kombucha. If you try one and aren’t a fan, switch it up to find just the right fermented friend for you. Your tummy will thank you.

What are the signs you need probiotics?

Craving too much sugar, constipation, overuse of antibiotics and a slowing metabolism are all signs that a probiotic would be a good idea for you. Adding kombucha to a smoothie, eating unsweetened yogurt or even learning to love sauerkraut are all ways to introduce healthy bacteria back into your gut and bring balance back to your body.

Notes

  • Kombucha is a naturally fermented beverage, and it does contain a very small percentage of alcohol, about that of a non-alcoholic beer, or even less. If that is something you avoid for whatever reason, totally swap it out for coconut water and a splash of sparkling water so your Probiotic Smoothie still has some fizz.ย
  • Feel free to swap out the peaches for another fruit such as frozen pineapple, mango, or strawberries. Switch things up by using another flavor of kombucha. Get creative!
  • You can also blend the lime right into the smoothie and use water to line the glass.
  • Probiotics can be added to the smoothie as well in powder form.
  • Nutrition is calculated without the kombuchaโ€” since it depends on the brand you use.

  1. I loved this!! I used ginger kombucha and added mint. Delicious!! Next time Iโ€™m going to use ginger cayenne kombucha and pineapple.

  2. 4 stars
I ran out of peaches so used pineapple and frozen mango and used water instead of kumbucha. It was a bit weird with the lime so I added banana and it was sooo good. These are so easy to tweak and make them to your taste.

I think I’ve found a new favorite in this Peach Probiotic Green Smoothie. The flavor popped, which is what I look for in a green smoothie. The ginger kombucha added just that hint of zing, and the peaches were sweet. I never thought to use kombucha before, but I’ll have to keep experimenting in the future. Disclosure: I used fresh peaches and frozen kale cubes (I ran out of spinach, but had plenty of kale), and I used the 1/2 lime to wet the rim of the glass before mixing it into the smoothie. (I dipped the glass in the coconut sugar after liming the rim.)

This is so yummy! I used fresh peaches instead of frozen peaches and it was so sweet and fresh! The hint of lime gets me every time too! SOO GOOD! Loved the addition of kombucha to this smoothie. I have never added kombucha to a smoothie before and I’m for sure going to do it again!! Loved the zing!!! Give this a try for sure!

  5. Loved this smoothie. Just became one of my favorite smoothies. I have never used kombucha in a smoothie before and wasnโ€™t sure about it. Now I am sure. Great! I used pink lady apple flavor. It gave the smoothie a crisp flavor. Just loved it.

So so so so GOOOOOD! I loved that hint of lime. I left off the coconut sugar because I was taking it to go in the car, but I imagine it would be amazing…and will definitely try it the next time I make it. The Kombucha I used was Strawberry Lemonade flavored…. I was scared because it smelled like vinegar and I don’t care for vinegar…but it didn’t taste like it at all. I don’t like Kombucha on its own….but can DEFINITELY drink it in a smoothie – BRILLIANT idea!

  7. 5 stars
This was a very enjoyable smoothie. I do love kombucha and this blended so lovely with my frozen peaches that it was like an ice cream. Perfection on a hot day.

  8. 4 stars
I would have never thought to put kombucha in my smoothie, this was very different and added a tart tangy flavor to the green smoothie. The Kombucha I used was Guava so I feel like it went well with the peach flavor of this smoothie. I am so proud of myself for finishing the 10-day challenge and I am feeling great! And plan to continue to try and have a green smoothie every day it was quite easy for me to substitute my smoothie for my breakfast meal of the day. Thanks so much! I love all the recipes!

    1. We’re proud of you too, Taylor! Way to rawk the challenge! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have tried Kombucha a few times and donโ€™t really like it but I thought I would give it another shot. It was okay, not as bad as it is by itself. Not sure I would have it again though. May swap out the Kombucha in the future. The rest was delicious though!

  10. 5 stars
Can I give this one 10 stars? This smoothie tasted like I was drinking a fancy adult beverage on a sunny beach. SO GOOD! I love kombucha, though, and I know not everyone likes the taste of it. But with the addition of the peaches and lime juice, I didn’t really taste the kombucha – it just added a nice carbonated zip to the smoothie. I’m going to experiment with different kombucha flavors and fruits in the near future.

  11. 5 stars
I can’t have kombucha for medical reasons and used coconut water instead. I love the frozen peaches with lime. It’s a nice combo.

  12. 5 stars
I like zip that the carbonation from Kombucha adds. I did not add any lime to the smoothie and since I had to take this one on the go, I skipped the sugar rim. I have done that before though, and like it…looks fancy and adds an extra touch of sweet! I also added a couple coconut milk smoothie cubes this time because Iโ€™m addicted.

  13. 3 stars
I substituted water for kombucha, and added a bit of ginger. Also forgot to juice the lime and put just half of it in. Not an overwhelming peach flavour, but that could be because of my frozen peaches or my additions/mistakes.

  14. 5 stars
I was terrified as I’ve never had kombucha before. I used the GTS gingerade and love it, great taste and very refreshing, a keeper no doubt. By the way, I love rimming the glass with the coconut sugar, it adds a a bit of sophistication and whimsy. P.S. I rimmed mine with a blend of coconut sugar and Pink Himalayan salt, delish.
