Detox Smoothie Recipe

A refreshing, energizing Detox Smoothie recipe to keep your health on track and nourish your body. Lose weight and gain energy!

Detox smoothie with pineapple and mango

You’re about to experience the most enjoyable Detox Smoothie to help heal your body from the inside out. Go you! But first, let’s get frank about that “D” word. “Detox” has become a trend in the weight loss space – and for the wrong reasons. Detoxing shouldn’t mean you’re depriving yourself! My detox smoothie recipe is the perfect way to pump the brakes on a day-to-day diet that has slowly become filled with coffee, bagels, Taco Bell and pizza, as well as give your body some lovin’ by nourishing it with plant based whole food.

According to wellness experts around the world, a gentle, plant based + whole food reset can heal and also renew the body.

When Should I Detox?

Each season, I commit to a 7 to 21 day reset that is aimed at eliminating the foods that cause inflammation and addiction (sugar, caffeine, gluten), as well as embraces a 100% plant based, whole food protocol.

I sleep better. I lean up. I’m less bloated. And I have waaaaay more energy. As a result, although I’m getting older this protocol is how I’m able to look and feel younger!

How do I know what to eat when cleansing or detoxing each season? I use my home-grown meal planner (called Rawk the Year) to keep me on track while I’m cleansing, but also my day-to-day eating (including my detox smoothies!) too.

Can this detox smoothie recipe help me lose weight?

Many people use green smoothies to help them lose weight. While detoxing’s main goal isn’t weight loss, if your goal is shedding a few lbs, you’ll want to replace a meal or two with a green smoothie. To be at your healthiest, make sure it’s not just any green smoothie— you’ll need a balanced recipe with good-for-you fats as well as protein to fuel your body.

To help with this, my Green Smoothie Meal Replacement Guide can transform any smoothie into a simple, quick meal.

If you need a more detailed detox plan, then I have just the one! My Thrive: A 7-Day Cleanse includes 2 green smoothie meal replacements each day, plus simple snacks and a plant based dinner.

Are detox smoothies really that good for you?

A daily green smoothie is the #1 healthy habit to set a foundation for a healthier lifestyle. Plants are a key foundation to living a long, healthy life as we know from the Blue Zones around the world. The easiest way to eat more plants is to blend them up then drink them down, just like in the green detox smoothie recipe below. It’s simple, quick and (maybe most importantly?) clean up is easy. #noexcuses

Truly, this Detox Smoothie Recipe is something that you could drink every morning to gain momentum and a fresh new direction when it comes to your health.

What do you eat while detoxing?

I always suggested drinking this detox smoothie along with plant based snacks and meal recipes. As an example, here are a few more ideas when it comes to eating healthy while doing a detox protocol.

  • Carrot Cake Bars: A batch of these makes a great snack that you can enjoy all week (plus it curbs the appetite!)
  • Cauliflower Buffalo Wings: Trust me… you will love these and crave them weekly.
  • Zoodles in a Jar: Is a healthier version of ramen with the comforting tasty flavors you’ve come to love.

When should I drink a detox smoothie?

The very best time to drink any detox smoothie + absorb the most nutrients is on an empty stomach. In other words, an empty stomach means you don’t have to worry about your smoothie sharing space with other digesting foods, which can lead to a bloating and upset stomach.

For instance, here’s how I do it: I like to wake up, have a glass of water, and then my coffee. About an hour later, I’ll enjoy my smoothie (like this detox smoothie recipe with chia seeds + mct oil). If I work out, then I’ll have a snack with nuts (trail mix, raw almonds, granola bar) before lunch. Sometimes I have a second green smoothie for lunch (it’s truly the healthiest fast food!), or leftovers from a Rawk the Year dinner.

If you’re doing multiple smoothies a day, I recommend having your second one for lunch or an afternoon snack. And don’t forget! Make sure to transform those smoothies into a proper meal replacement so you aren’t hungry. A great way to do that is with a plant based protein powder, like my Protein Smoothie Boost.

Now, who’s ready to take that “D” word back and make detoxing a delicious new habit?! Let’s get blending, shall we…

  2. Dani Mitchel says:

Wow! I never thought I’d like a kale smoothie as much as this one! The pineapple was refreshing and helped hide the kale. Love it!

  3. Kim says:

I was out of kale, so doubled up on spinach. It was delish!

  4. Amanda says:

    Love, love, love!!

  5. Pua Corr says:

I did a search that started with, “the smoothies I make taste terrible”, and ‘simple green smoothies’ popped-up! I was in need of a detox smoothie so made yours… WOWZA! Seriously the best smoothie I have ever had and certainly the best one I’ve ever made. I have recipes and shopping lists for 4-6 others I will be moving in to the daily food/ meal rotation. Thank you, thank you, and MAHALOS! ~Pua

    • Simple Green Smoothies says:

Love, love, love how you found us! Keep us posted and happy blending!

  6. Erin says:

This one has always been hard for me to drink because it makes my blood sugar spike. I tried it with Protein Smoothie Boost and it really helped! I didn’t get the spike, and I was able to enjoy a higher sugar smoothie.

    • Simple Green Smoothies says:

That’s awesome, Erin! What a great tip for our community. Adding more protein or fiber can def help with maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

  7. Lynne says:

This is the same as the other mango pineapple one as I don’t use spinach just kale. Love the mango flavor.

  8. HOPE says:

Not too bad. Drinking kale is an adjustment (it tastes like collard greens to me and I prefer to eat my collards rather than drink them). But, this has enough fruit to mostly mask the taste (still a little lingering flavor). Due to the health benefits of this smoothie, I will make again.

    • Simple Green Smoothies says:

As you’re getting used to rawkin greens in your smoothie, feel free to add a little less in the way of greens or a little more in the way of fruit. Then as you blend more smoothies, you can slowly adjust the balance back to the original recipe as you get accustomed to it. So glad you’ll give it another blend!

  9. Cristina Ribeiro says:

    Light and refreshing

  10. Ogechi nwaokelemeh says:

  11. Ruby says:

I think I could have used more mango, but this one was refreshing as well. Kale really takes the edge off of something that tries to be too sweet.

  12. Cynthia says:

I love this recipe: the blend of mango and pineapple smooth over the bitterness of the spinach and kale.

    • Simple Green Smoothies says:

Totally agree Cynthia! Fruits are our friends. 🙂

  13. Betty says:

Pretty good. I was a little short on pineapple. I used soy milk & Greek yogurt instead of water.

the smoothie was delicious, I just added flax seeds, coconut water and because I didn’t have pearI replace it for pineapple

This comment was for day nine smoothie, for this smoothie I used also arugula and macadamia milk, loved it!!!

  15. Dawn says:

This was too delicious to be called detox! It’s delightful!

  16. Joyce C. says:

I absolutely love spinach and kale mixed, add mango and pineapple, and you have a party in your mouth. Love, love, love this one. FIVE Stars✨✨✨✨✨.

  17. Nancy Lewellen says:

Pleasantly surprised- just the words “detox” made me think this might not be so good – but I could honestly drink this a couple times a week without hesitation.

  18. Cheryl B. says:

Used smaller amounts of fruit. Replaced water with 1/2 kefir, 1/2 coconut water. Added hemp hearts, cardamom, and ginger.

  19. Sushila Shah says:

I enjoyed all the smoothie recipes. Variety of fruits and greens in smoothie is easy to make and drink. This is easy to combine fruit and greens in smoothie and drink. I really like all the recipes and will contine with these recipes. I included only hemp hearts in this smoothie. I will try flax seeds and chia seeds too as mentioned.

  20. Janice says:

I really love pineapple in the smoothies! This was good and made even better by adding seeds and Superfood greens powder.

  21. Jennifer A says:

Tropical deliciousness! I added a coconut smoothie cube and enjoyed it!

  22. Alyssa says:

I enjoyed my variation of this recipe. I scaled back a bit on the greens and included cilantro. Also added oats, matcha, greek yogurt, and hemp hearts. Reminded me of a fresh mango salsa!

    • Simple Green Smoothies says:

Ooooh! That does sound refreshing. Very creative, Alyssa!

  23. Jenn. says:

My absolute fave of the entire challenge! So delicious!

  24. Holly says:

My son said this is his all-time favorite smoothie! 🙂 Super sweet & delicious!

    • Simple Green Smoothies says:

We love it when we score points with the kiddos, especially when there are greens involved!

  25. Grace says:

Good. I especially enjoyed how the frozen mango and pineapple made a cool smoothie. My smoothie had a bit of an earthy flavour, probably because I used about double the amount of kale (and mostly stems). Also added hemp protein powder, black chia seeds and ground flax.

    • Simple Green Smoothies says:

Your hunch is correct Grace! Adding additional kale, as well as those protein boosters will def increase an earthy flavor in any smoothie. Def blend as-is first and then add additional good stuff as you go so you can check the flavor.

  26. Cheryl Robillard says:

Have really been enjoying all the smoothies- this one makes me feel like I’m doing something for my health.

  27. Laura Jacobson says:

This smoothie was Delicioso as well! I made it throught all 10 days yeah! What a great way to think about getting better fruits and veggies into one’s diet! I plan to keep at it!

We’re cheering you on, Laura! So glad you’re doing this for yourself. Keep us posted!

  28. Rachelle McCann says:

Delicious and tropical. This is a keeper.

  29. Dr. Aja Holmes says:

This one was yummu as well! For the last 5 smoothies I added Kale so this one was just great and I got used to the kale by number 10!

    • Simple Green Smoothies says:

Love that you gradually added kale to become more accustomed to it. Such a rawkstar move Aja!

  30. LINDA E says:

I would have never guessed that this would be our favorite, since it had both kale and spinach. It was so yummy and I will make this recipe often. When it was gone, I wanted more!!!

  31. Churice R says:

Best Hands down, love my mangoes….

  32. Alannah says:

This is one of my favorites! I added Greek yogurt and a little honey and basil to replace my breakfast before a good workout and it was just the healthy fuel my body needed. Great smoothie to end the challenge with!

  33. Sharon says:

Not my favorite. I used coconut water instead of plain water. Next time I’ll use just water.

  34. Debbie A Meshishnek says:

Another great smoothie for the 10 day challenge. Thanks for all the great recipes.

  35. Michele says:

Everything blended up well and it was very refreshing and tropical. I added protein powder and 1 TBS of yogurt.

  36. Judith Walter says:

Out of all of the smoothies in the 10 day challenge this is my favorite!!

  37. Clareen M says:

Nice & fruity with the substitution of coconut water. Added extra fruit to hide the kale better

  38. Jeannette Pepin says:

So good! So simple! Added a bit of fresh grated ginger. One of my favorites.

  39. Dora Suarez says:

Yummy very tropical and refreshing. Instead of water I blended mine with a Ginger Lemon Turmeric Kombucha that gave it a little kick.

    • Simple Green Smoothies says:

Dora, you just blew our minds!!! LOVE that sub for your liquid and will def give a blend soon.

  40. Nancy says:

I love, love, LOVE mango!!! I have to watch my sugar count, but this was my splurge! With no kale on hand, I easily doubled the spinach and enjoyed my smoothie!

  41. Bonnie C. says:

This is the first one I’ve tried that calls for kale, which I love, but was a little skeptical about how it would be in a smoothie. It tasted very slightly more vegetable-y than with just spinach, but the overall flavor is still more fruit than veggie, and I don’t think most people could identify that there is kale OR spinach in this. All the fruits I used were frozen. I’m looking forward to using fresh when available as I think it would just kick the flavors up notch. This one was a pretty green with a nice frothy consistency.

  42. Pat L. says:

Refreshing smoothie! I added cilantro for added benefits. Weekend of not-so-healthy eating so decided it was time for a detox smoothie! 🙂

  43. Amanda Peters says:

I liked it. I think I’m getting the hang of combinations now.

  44. Latanya Gaddy says:

I Need More Energy. And I Need To Loose Weight

also I love this recipe !!

  46. temitope says:

A good way to start a healthy day.

i will give it a try and feed you back.

  47. Monica G. says:

I love this detox smoothie!! Its easy to make and taste great!! I have it first thing in the morning and highly recommend it!!!

  48. Laura Podrasky says:

So yummy. That’s it, just a wonderfully yummy smoothie.

  49. Stacia Wilson says:

Great smoothie combo! Next time I make it I’m going to add a little basil and coconut water.

  50. Shelley Anne says:

Super yummy. Love the taste of the pineapple. I used frozen kale ether then the fresh.

  51. Amy Maxfield says:

Thank you for a wonderful day 10!
    Creamy smoothies are the best!

  52. Anita says:

I really liked this smoothie. Its something about pineapple and mango.

  53. Cynthia Williams Phelps says:

Next to Beginners Luck, this is one of my favorites!

  54. Tim says:

This is one of the easier ones to make and very tasty, also. Usually any smoothie that contains pineapple is one I’m a fan of.

  55. Meagan says:

This smoothie was yummy. I added all kale + cilantro. Tasted more green than the rest and right up my alley.

  56. Jessica says:

Tropical fruit green smoothies are always a win with me. Loved this one.

  57. Laura Young says:

    Super tasty!

  58. Dora Suarez says:

Yummy! I can have this daily. I used baby kale instead of adult kale, lol, I prefer the taste. Would we modify the “cleansing” benefits of this smoothie if we used coconut water or a coconut/almond milk blend in place of water? Just curious, it was delicious as is.

    • SGS Rawkstar Jess says:

Dora, you could use any of those options. For more of a “cleansing” smoothie, I’d use something lighter, like water or coconut water.

  59. Susan says:

The only substitute I made today is exchanging orange juice for the water. It is Delicious!!

  60. Ella says:

I gotta say,…It tasted a lot like the “spinach and kale” one just w\o the banana.
But – I boosted it with some green tea, which was great.
    TNX for the challange.

  61. Sher says:

Day 10! Green Detox smoothie has a refreshing taste. I’m feeling like a Rawkstar. Kale yeah!
    All pics on my IG

  62. Grace says:

Day 10 complete! I used all kale instead of adding spinach, and black chia seeds, pea protein powder and added a few vitamin c smoothie cubes (where I subbed in cantaloupe instead of papaya and sweet potato instead of cauliflower). Thank you for all these delicious recipes!

  63. Jean says:

This tastes so refreshing! I used coconut water in place of regular water. All spinach since I had no kale. It was so thick so I added more water. Then topped with a little cinnamon. One of my favorites!
