Why is Cilantro used in a green smoothie detox recipe?

Cilantro isn’t just for your guacamole and salsa! We love blending cilantro in our green smoothies. Adding this leafy herb brings a unique flavor to this sweet and creamy detox green smoothie. Cilantro, also known as fresh coriander, helps the body naturally get rid of heavy metals and other toxins. It’s high in vitamin K, which is important for blood clotting. Also, cilantro is a good source of vitamins C and A. (Don’t worry – if you’re someone who can’t stand parsley, you can substitute parsley. It doesn’t have quite the same benefits that cilantro has, but it’s a great replacement.)

We’ve added some of our favorite tropical fruits – mango, pineapple, and avocado. They add natural sweetness and make this extra creamy and delicious. Not to mention, the dietary fiber from the greens and fruits helps keep things moving along in the digestive tract. The healthy fats from the avocado help keep you feeling full and satisfied, but also help the body absorb nutrients from the other ingredients.

Description

Enjoy this cilantro-based green smoothie detox recipes that’s a naturally great way to help cleanse your body of icky toxins. // serves two


Scale

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups spinach (fresh)
  • .5 cup cilantro (fresh)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1.5 cups mango
  • 1 cup pineapple
  • .5 avocado

Instructions

  1. Blend spinach, cilantro, and water until smooth.
  2. Next add the remaining ingredients and blend again.

Notes

Use frozen fruit to make this smoothie cold, or serve over ice.

Our recipes make two servings – your pre-blended smoothie will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two-days, add a small amount of lemon juice to help preserve their green goodness!

    Good Morning!

    My friend has concerns about doing a detox. In his words, he doesn’t have time to be “taking d..ps for two days straight”. Will this Cilantro-Mango smoothie “inconvenience” him like other detox options?

    omg. Cilantro in smoothies. YUM. For a person who is still on the fence about lots of cilantro, I was worried about this smoothie, but boy was it amazing! I’m not even kidding- I will be making cilantro friendly smoothies from now on!

    All I can say is it’s delicious. Never thought of using cilantro in a smoothie, but I will be from now on. Added some Greek yogurt, flaxseed, and almond milk rather than water it was a little thick, but delicious.Thanks so much for the recipe

    Thank you for this recipe. I was told to eat cilantro to help detox my body, but dislike it. This is a perfect way for me to get it into my diet. The first half of the drink proved to be a little bland; however, I added 3 medjool dates to the second half and it was perfect for me!
