Warm Green Smoothie: Chai Tea

Warm Chai Tea Green Smoothie

Is it cold where you live? Fall and winter bring chilly temps and it can be hard to crave a nice, frosty green smoothie when you’d rather be sipping something warm and cozy. Brr! So…we have a great warm green smoothie recipe that you will love! Our Chai Tea green smoothie is full of nutritious spinach, fruit, some creamy coconut milk, dates to sweeten it, and the perfect amount of spices.

Chai Tea Warm Green Smoothie

You can use hot tea or water for your smoothie base. We like using our high speed blenders on the soup function to heat them up, but if your blender doesn’t have that function, you can gently warm it in the microwave or on the stove. One note – be careful if you’re blending hot liquids. If you don’t vent the lid a little, the liquid can leak and splatter.

Warm Chai Tea Smoothie made with spinach

Add more dates, if needed, to reach the desired sweetness. Up the amount or use different spices, if you like. Feel free to alter the recipe according to your taste.

What’s your go-to hot beverage to warm you up during the cooler weather?

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 2 1x
  • Category: Breakfast, Drinks

A warm comforting smoothie that is full of healthy fruit and spinach, plus just the right amount of spices.

  • 2 cups fresh spinach
  • 1 cup brewed tea (herbal green, white, or black))
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 ripe pear (cored and peeled, if desired)
  • 1 ripe apple (cored and peeled, if desired)
  • 23 medjool dates
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½– inch piece fresh ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom

  1. Blend spinach, tea, and coconut milk until smooth.
  2. Next add the remaining ingredients. If using a high speed blender, start blending again on low speed working up to high speed. Allow to blend for 3-5 minutes, or until very hot. If using a regular blender, blend until smooth and heat gently on the stove or transfer to mugs and heat in microwave.

Note: Hot tea can be used, but use caution when blending. Be sure to let the lid vent so the liquid doesn’t leak and splatter. Blend on low speed, working up to high speed until smooth.

How well do you think these warm smoothies would hold up if made ahead of time – how long would they keep

    Hey Kate,

You can keep your smoothie in your refrigerator up to 2 days in an air tight container. I would just put it on the stove and warm it up for a couple minutes whenever you are ready to have it 🙂

Hi, Jen! Thanks for sharing – this one is delicious! 🙂
A warm smoothie it’s something I have occasionally if I’m cold and want a warm breakfast. Here is my recipe: I’ll whiz up some banana, a little bran or oats, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of cocoa powder in a blender with enough milk to make it smooth, then top off with some warm milk and stir up to blend – I find doing it that way is better because it lessens the risk of warm milk exploding out of the blender.

Loved this recipe. Great to be able to eat raw, but still get it hot. Usually I only make cold smoothies, and have never used spices as much as in this one, but it worked really well together!
