Everywhere I look, companies are coming out with new weight loss drinks. Everyone thinks they’ve found the perfect formula, perfect ingredients, perfect “it” factor when it comes to the best drinks for weight loss. Yet what if I told you that you don’t need some supplement with ingredients from a specific tree on a specific island in the middle of the ocean just to lose weight? I’ve got 6 of the best drinks for weight loss to share today. These drinks are simple, delicious, and full of only the good stuff!

Detox drinks for weight loss

While I don’t recommend drinking only these beverages throughout the day, they are each designed to help promote weight loss when included in a balanced diet. Each drink contains ingredients that do some pretty cool stuff in the body:

  • Apple cider vinegar– contains acetic acid, which helps stall weight gain and decreases fat in the belly and liver.
  • Gingerstudies show this root effectively reduces fat, as well as increases HDL (good cholesterol) in the body.
  • Plant based protein– According to the American Dietetic Association, a well balanced vegetarian/vegan diet provide more than adequate protein to prevent and treat certain diseases. I’ve actually created an organic, plant based protein boost for green smoothies. It adds 10 grams of clean protein to each smoothie.
  • Lemon– loaded with antioxidants to promote weight loss. You can also add it to water to create a simple weight loss drink.
  • Cinnamon– also full of antioxidants. Cinnamon has powerful anti-inflammatory affects as well.
  • TurmericCurcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric, and has anti-inflammatory + antioxidants as well. If inflammation is a serious concern, then I suggest taking this in supplement form. Ground turmeric has a smaller amount of curcumin.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cup 1x
  • Category: Beverage
  • Method: Blending
  • Cuisine: American

Description

This is the perfect little treat at the end of a long day. The combination of almond milk + warming digestive spices balances your blood sugar and stabilizes your metabolism, while the extra protein boost from the almond butter helps curb hunger pains.

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond milk (unsweetened)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • A pinch of ground ginger
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small pan.
  2. Heat on the stove over medium heat until warm.*
  3. Pour into a mug.

Notes

*Pro tip: After heating the ingredients on the stove, pour the mixture into the blender and run it for about 30 seconds (leave a little hole in the lid for the steam to escape). This makes sure everything is mixed super well, and adds a bit of froth to make you feel like you just got served at your favorite coffee shop!

Jen, If we have a VitaMix, can’t we just add all of the ingredients and let it run to get the heat needed. I make hot soup in mine all the time and it does get quite hot. Thanks!!!

    • SGS Rawkstar Jess says:

Great question, Connie! You can def do that. I have a Vitamix and it’s how I make this drink. πŸ™‚

  8. Hanan Mohammed says:

    So amazing!
It reminded me of chai latte I used to order in university cafΓ©, really classical.
I had sweetened almond milk, so didn’t add any sweeteners. I can play around with the spices next time.
    But awesome this way too!

  9. Anita says:

I was so craving this. So comforting and creamy!!!!

  10. Dieta says:

I might just give up my morning coffee au lait for this drink….it is truly amazing. Used peanut butter since I am out of almond butter and whipped it up with a handheld frother as Jan Barry suggested…..creamy and wonderfully satisfying.

    • SGS Rawkstar Jess says:

I love this drink, also. You could def make it your new morning drink! I think it’s a great nighttime beverage if I’m still hungry after dinner and it’s warming and soothing to help me wind down for bed.

  11. Jeannene Frazier says:

The drink is very good and was the perfect choice when I stopped drinking alcohol. The spices I used were turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon 1 tablespoon MCT oil and organic peanut butter in the unsweetened almond milk and with monk fruit and stevia as sweeteners. The tea was excellent. Thanks

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

So happy to hear that you enjoyed this recipe Jeannene! Way to make this your own so that it worked for you!!

  12. Sandria L Decker says:

I am wondering can honey be used instead of maple syrup?

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Sandria,

Yes, you can use honey if that is what you prefer. I use honey whenever I make this recipe and it is delicious!!

  13. Danny says:

I love chai but this recipie makes my number one now, it’s so easy and perfect, I wouldn’t change anything

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

SO happy that you love this recipe! It really is the perfect treat to end your day with πŸ™‚

  14. Emily says:

This drink was rather delightful! I even found that its good iced!! Sort of like a halfway horchata, minus the rice flavor. Will definitely be keeping this one.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

That sounds so delicious and I will have to give the iced version a try πŸ™‚

      Thank you for sharing!

  15. Sheryl says:

This is so delicious. I made it this morning with dates instead of maple syrup. Blended all the ingredients then heated on the stove. I made it again tonight with honey and it still tasted great. Will try it with maple syrup next thanks for this amazing recipe this will replace my Starbucks soy latte

  16. Jan Barry says:

This drink was amazing! I love Chai Lattes and this was such a similar taste but different enough to be a completely new drink. I feel so warm and relaxed plus it curbs that after dinner urge for dessert or snack! I put everything in a big mug, warmed it in the microwave then used a handheld frother to mix it all up. Perfectly simple!

  17. Lwazi says:

hey, guyz I’m Lwazi I wanna what smithies are there that are delightful and go for someone planining to lose weight

  18. Lynn says:

A very nice change for a hot beverage! Also a great way to use up extra almond milk and/or switch it up…make it more interesting.

I make my own almond milk using my Vitamix blender. So I used homemade almond milk, and then followed the recipe as it was outlined. Instead of warming in a saucepan however, I was able to put all ingredients directly into a large mug. Gave it a stir and nuked it for 2 mins. at Power Level 8. Then I frothed it using a tiny battery-operated frother called Aerolatte. Yum!

    • SGS Rawkstar Amanda says:

      HI Lynn,

LOVE IT!! This recipe is elevated to a whole other level when you use homemade almond milk!

  19. Pip says:

Can I swap out the maple syrup for honey as I have no maple syrup? Will it be the same sort of flavour?

    • SGS Rawkstar Amanda says:

      Hi Pip,

Totally. The flavor with change slightly, but it will still offer you a hint of sweetness, naturally!

  20. Lisa says:

    Wow!!! Loved this!!

  21. Carol says:

This sounds good but I’m not sure I can have to Ginger due to having a blood clotting problem, I may have to ask my doctor tomorrow when I go see her.

    • SGS Rawkstar Amanda says:

      Hi Carol,

Good call! It’s always best to check with your physician first. If your doctor comes back and suggests avoiding ginger, you can still enjoy this recipe, just simply leave it out!

  22. Beth says:

Sorry if this has been asked before, but does this work if you make it ahead of time and just warm it up? Would like to be able to make a large batch to be able to quickly access.

    • SGS Rawkstar Amanda says:

      Hi Beth,

I prefer to make this recipe right before enjoying. The spices and almond butter have a habit of separating. You can definitely give it a try. If so I’d suggest storing it in a jar you can give a good shake!

  23. Krista Wooley says:

I’m not a huge fan of warm drinks in the evening for whatever reason, but drinking this an hour before bed is such a lovely, comforting thing. I couldn’t believe how it wound me down and really prepped me for sleepy time! And I love the added option of the almond butter- it really pulled me through the FS21 Fall Cleanse when I was too full to eat dinner, but still needed some protein in my belly.

  24. Elsie says:

This for me is definitely an acquired taste drink. I am just drinking it for the cleanse. I don’t think I would continue unless it was for health reasons.

  25. Susan Patel says:

Love the Spiced Almond Milk! Perfect relaxing drink in the evening.

  26. Tracy says:

    Simple and perfect.

  27. Laura Hidalgo says:

I love this night treat. But I have modified it a little bit (a lot). I use oat milk, with just a little bit of maple, and add the cinnamon, turmeric and cloves <3

  28. Louisa says:

Can you add organic peanut butter instead of almond butter?

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Louisa,

Of course! But if you’re using the Spiced Almond Milk as part of our cleanse, we suggest avoiding peanut products over the 21 days.

  29. Hope says:

I just made this! It’s really delish! I steeped a chamomile tea bag in it because I’m having it before bed. Great idea, thank you!

  30. Jackie says:

This looks really yummy! Wondering if I can add maybe a Tbsp of cacao to give it a nice chocolatey option?

  31. Kendra says:

Made this again tonight for an evening snack and have to say it’s as tasty as I remembered! I love the bit of heat from the cayenne pepper

  32. Lita says:

Can you repost your recipe for making coconut milk and almost milk?? please

  33. Shonda Palmer Mindfulness Coach says:

I love this drink so much! It’s delicious!
I use my immersion blender to make it frothy and it works great. Thank you!

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Shonda,

YAY! We love the idea of blendin’ this up with your immersion blender for easy clean-up!

  34. Yevette says:

I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately and can’t wait to try this tonight. Thanks for sending this out.

  35. Liam says:

Tried this today, but I’ve never been a fan of maple syrup so used honey in it’s place.

Absolutely delightful drink, I recently got told I couldn’t consume dairy or caffeine any more ( I’ve always been mildly lactose intolerant but it took a turn for the worse recently ).

I grabbed some Soya Milk and Almond Milk as I’ve never tried either, but decided I preferred Soya for “General Use”.

As a result, I thought I’d try to find some recipes to replace my daily teas and coffees, found this and it’s a wonderful drink ( although I mildly overdid it on the cinnamon, tastes wonderful but it didn’t fully dissolve ).

  36. MaryJo says:

    Sounds like a great option!

Since I’m using a Nutri-Bullet that is not for hot foods, will it work to blend first and then heat, or does it separate during the heating process.

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi MaryJo,

Great question! Blending will create an extra frothy drink, but you’re right hot liquids + the NutriBullet don’t mix. I have a NutriBullet too and simply whisk the ingredients together on the stovetop instead of blending.

      Hope this helps!

  37. Sian says:

This is completely amazing! Thanks for the fabulous recipe. I made my own almond milk, which is so delicious! What a treat!

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Sian,

YAY! We have to agree it’s a great recipe, but it’s even better when you’re using homemade almond milk!

  38. Gina says:

This is AMAZING! Better than any coffee shop drink! This is my new go to for a cozy, relaxing drink!

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Gina,

Thanks for the love! This is one of our favorite recipes + we love unwinding with a warm mug at the end of the day!

  39. Sorcha says:

Hi all, loveeee the idea of this. I seem to be in the habit of having a hot chocolate every night before bed… is this just as bad calorie / sugar wise do you think? x

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Sorcha,

Thanks for reaching out! Our Spiced Almond Milk is actually part of our cleanse and the perfect gilt-free way to end your evening! The combination of almond milk and warming digestive spices balances your blood sugar and stabilizes your metabolism, while the extra protein boost from the almond butter helps curb hunger pains.

      Hope this helps! πŸ™‚

  40. Rhonda says:

All I can say is Hello Spiced Almond Milk and Goodbye
    Starbucks✌️

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

YAY! Thank you so much for sharing your love for our Spiced Almond Milk recipe! Cheers to health + happiness! πŸ™‚

  41. Eileen says:

Delicious! I made it for my husband and he really enjoyed it! It’s a keeper! thanks for sharing the recipe.:)

  42. Carmella Talavera-Pike says:

Hey can Iake it without the maple syrup or sub stevia for it?Trying t9 stop using sugar;).Thanks Carmella

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Carmella,

Of course! Our recipes are here to inspire you, please don’t feel like you need to follow them to a T.

      Cheers πŸ™‚

  43. Lizz says:

Well ofcourse im going to try this.. It sounds yummmieee…

  44. susannah says:

Hi guys, this recipe looks great. Would it still be as good if I subbed out the almond milk for soy milk?

  45. Denise says:

Thanks for the yummy recipes! Do you have any recommendations on “clean” almond milk and coconut milk? I often see ingredients such as guar gum or xanthan gum or carageenan listed on the labels of the unsweetened ones.

  46. Meaninc says:

It’s 32 degrees tonite in Detroit, and this drink is making me warm up fast. This is very simple and tasty. Keep up the good work ladies!

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Meaninc,

Happy to hear our Spiced Almond Milk recipe is keeping you warm tonight! It’s my go-to during chilly winters! πŸ™‚

  47. Bukola says:

OMG!! I was so hungry and it is late..:( so I googled low-fat healthy late night snack…and I found this recipe!
I only had almond unsweetened vanilla milk. So I added, ginger, cinnamon and half a teaspoon of maple syrup…hmmmm next time I will add nutmeg

    Thank you!!!!!

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Bukola,

Yay! We’re so happy you found us in this busy internet world + enjoyed our Spiced Almond Milk recipe. Thank you so much for reaching out + letting us know!

  48. Susie says:

Is there a way to make this in a blendtec instead of the stovetop? Love this drink!

  49. Lori says:

I’m not sure what I was expecting. I WANTED this drink to be good, but I wasn’t sure how it’d turn out. Oh man! It is so good! I dumped it in my Bledtec for a bit and the resulting frothiness was so delicious. I added a little cardamom in mine just cause πŸ™‚ This will probably be a nightly thing…

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Lori,

Yay! We’re so happy to hear you loved our Spiced Almond Milk recipe. It’s the perfect ending to any day. I love curling up on the couch with a mug of Spiced Almond Milk each night, especially once it gets chilly.

      Cheers πŸ™‚

  50. Randi says:

My daughter and I just made this. We used honey instead of syrup, yummmmm!!

  51. Jennifer says:

a pinch of nutmeg also makes a nice addition.

  52. karen says:

Hi. this recipe sounds great but I’m allergic to nuts so would use coconut milk instead of almond milk but what could I use instead of nut butter??

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Karen,

Mmm…creamy coconut milk makes a great replacement for almond milk. You can always leave the almond butter out due to your allergies, or one of my favorite homemade non-nut butters is pumpkin seed butter! Its best benefits include a ton of protein (more than peanut butter), fiber, potassium, and beta-carotene, a nutrient associated with boosting the immune system.

  53. Rachel says:

Not going to lie I was a little hesitant going into this, but I keep seeing it on my instagram feed and was craving something along the lines of a coffee dessert and decided to finally give it a try, and I’m in love! I did substitute cayenne pepper with paprika but delicious nonetheless πŸ™‚

  54. Charlotte says:

Hi there, thanks for this delicious and warm recipe! I’m using a variation of it this morning. Didn’t have nut butters on hand, so I used psyllium fibre cereal (ground) to up my fibre intake. I blended all ingredients cold then heated on the stovetop. With the cereal in there absorbing liquid, the texture changed. It’s quite nice – something between a thick smoothie and a loose porridge. My 21 month old and I just finished, and we loved the taste of this spiced almond milk!

  55. Catherine says:

Lovely relaxing bedtime drink, my young kids say they like it better than hot chocolate. Just a tiny pinch of Cayenne Pepper for them and an extra pinch for me.

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Catherine,

So excited to hear you and your kids are enjoying our Spiced Almond Milk recipe! It does make the perfect drink before bed!

      Cheers πŸ™‚

  56. Natalie Jayet says:

Yummy this sounds so good. I’m going to incude it in my change of diet next week. I’m going to be having a smoothie everyday too so this site will be very helpful! Xx

  57. Jess says:

    Hello,

This sounds fabulous! I don’t have any cayenne pepper though; what would you recommend I use instead? Thanks!

  58. Alexandra says:

we dont have almond butter here where i live, could i use any other nut butter ? πŸ™‚

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Alexandra,

Feel free to replace the almond butter with any other nut butter πŸ™‚

  59. Kim says:

I love this idea, but my daughter is allergic to almond milk can I use coconut milk instead?

  60. Vaishali says:

Thank you for the recipe. Almond milk is a new thing for me.

  61. Niki Chennell says:

Delicious!!!! I may have put too much cayenne cuz it’s a little hot. I’m trying to wean myself off of coffee. I will be trying this in the mornings.

  62. Kelly says:

Hi! I didn’t have any maple syrup to use for this so when I was in the store I saw Pure Maple Syrup and then the good old Pancake Syrup … Pure was about $8 and had SO MUCH SUGAR in it. And the Pancake syrup was super cheap still with so much sugar in it. Now don’t get me wrong I have a sweet tooth but I’d like this drink to be a bit more healthy. Which one do you recommend for this recipe or is there something else with less sugar that I could use in it’s place for this recipe? Thanks in advance!

    • SGS Rawkstar Jessie says:

      Hi Kelly.

Thanks for reaching out. The Pure Maple Syrup is natural accruing sugar in the syrup, but the cheap pancake syrup is most likely fake, processed sugar.

      • Kelly says:

Ok thank you for the info I appreciate it! If I decide to skip the pure maple syrup do you think honey would taste right in it’s place for this recipe or no?

      • SGS Rawkstar Jessie says:

Yes, Honey would be another great option. πŸ™‚

  63. Monica Sharma says:

Great Article. Thanks for the almond milk

  64. Monica says:

Thanks for this great article and new recipe.

  65. Valerie says:

I love this, I just blended all the ingredients first then put it on stove. It has been cold and I have been drinking it since I don’t do coffee.

  66. Ronny Clarke says:

Thank you, I became successful of making spiced almond milk.

  67. Tiffany says:

Do you recommend a certain brand of almond and coconut milk?

  68. Kelly says:

Would a hand held blender work well to froth this drink up? I only have a magic bullet so there is no way to allow for steam to escape during blending (have lost the lid to the little blender attachment in a house move).

  69. claire says:

Hi this sounds great. I have never seen almond butter in shops here (Ireland) what could I use instead? Only thing I can think of is coconut oil. Thanks

    • SGS Rawkstar Jessie says:

If you have raw almonds you can put them into your blender with some coconut oil, blend and then you have homemade almond butter. πŸ™‚

    • Elaine says:

Claire you could try the t’internet for your hard to source products. I get most of mine via Amazon.co.uk. They are usually much cheaper than shops as well.

  70. Paula says:

Really good and warming. Chai-like seasonings, I thought. The almond butter added nice substance. I didn’t have maple syrup so subbed honey.

  71. Marcy says:

So yummy!! Perfect for these cold New England nights πŸ™‚ I’m not a huge maple fan so I used some stevia instead. This is definitely going to make these frigid nights a little warmer.

  72. maria says:

    Delicioso

  73. Grace says:

Brilliant!!! I’m drinking one cup right now is puuurfect.

  74. alison says:

Just made this and can agree it is yummy!

  75. Mary says:

Taste chalky…any suggestions? I did omit the butter

  76. Karen says:

I am so looking forward to making this. Going to pick up the ingred tomorrow ! I’ve been trying to get off dairy

I have signed up for the 30 day smoothie challenge in January and now can’t wait, if this is the kind of tasty recipes you’ll have πŸ™‚

    • SGS Rawkstar Jessie says:

      Hi Karen.

Thanks for the comment. I looked in our email list and your email is not present. I am not sure why you would be getting our feed if you aren’t apart of our community. Facebook places ads in peoples Facebook feeds, we don’t. Sorry we couldn’t be more of assistance.
