This fruit smoothie bowl is a vibrant, delicious way to start your day—like eating the rainbow with a spoon. Made with blueberries, strawberries, banana, and orange, it blends into a thick, creamy base that’s naturally sweet and loaded with vitamin C.

Top it with fresh fruit, granola, or hemp hearts for extra crunch and nutrients. Whether you’re bored with basic smoothies or want something more satisfying, this fruit smoothie bowl is an easy upgrade that even picky eaters will love. It’s one of my go-to recipes in my book, Simple Green Smoothies—and once you try it, you’ll see why.

  • Bright, fruity flavor: Made with orange, banana, and berries for a naturally sweet, vitamin-packed boost.
  • Thick and creamy texture: Blends up smooth and spoonable—perfect for piling on your favorite toppings.
  • Quick and nutritious: Ready in minutes with simple ingredients, making it an easy, healthy breakfast or snack.

Ingredients in Fruit Smoothie Bowl

I often call this a rainbow smoothie bowl since it really does include a rainbow of ingredients. Each one is a powerhouse of nutrients in its own way, but blended together it becomes the ultimate boost for your body thanks to the fiber, vitamin A and vitamin C.

  • Spinach: I love adding leafy greens to smoothie bowls to boost protein, vitamin C and fiber.
  • Orange: This awesome citrus acts as both fruit and liquid so no need to add additional water to this smoothie bowl.
  • Strawberries: Frozen strawberries are picked at the peak freshness so they are super sweet and bursting with flavor.
  • Blueberries: These tiny berries are antioxidant powerhouses and a mild ingredient for smoothie bowls.
  • Banana: Finish this recipe off with just a touch of sweetness and extra creaminess from a fresh banana.

Suggested Toppings

Topping your fruit smoothie bowl is where the fun (and flavor) really comes in. Not only do toppings add texture and visual appeal, but they also boost the nutrition and help keep you full longer. Mix and match your favorites to create your perfect bowl. Here are some delicious topping ideas:

  • Fresh fruit: Sliced strawberries, orange segments, banana, and kiwi add natural sweetness and color.
  • Crunchy granola: Adds texture and makes your smoothie bowl feel more like a complete meal.
  • Coconut flakes: A tropical touch that pairs perfectly with berries and citrus.
  • Chia seeds or hemp hearts: Tiny but mighty, these add a boost of protein, fiber, and omega-3s.
  • Nut butter drizzle: Almond or peanut butter gives it richness and staying power.

Keep it simple or pile it high—whatever makes you actually excited to eat it. There’s no wrong way to top a smoothie bowl, so go with what you’ve got and what you love.

How to Make a Fruit Smoothie Bowl

  1. Start by blending the spinach and orange until smooth. It might take a bit for your blender to break down the spinach leaves until there are no leafy chunks. I like to lightly peel my oranges so they keep the white pith on them, loaded with nutrients.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and blend again until smooth. Since the frozen fruit won’t have a whole lot of liquid to help them break down, use the tamper (if you’re using a high powered blender) or stop your blender and scrape down the sides as many times as needed for a smooth blend.
  3. Once your smoothie bowl reaches the consistency of soft serve ice cream, scoop into a bowl and top away!

Smoothie Bowl Blending Tip

You can turn any smoothie recipe into a smoothie bowl by simply decreasing the amount of liquid. Start by using 25% of the recommended liquid and use your tamper to push the ingredients into the blender blade. If it’s too thick to blend at all, add 2 tbsp liquid at a time until you’ve hit the desired consistency.

Fruit Smoothie Bowl Questions

Can I make a fruit smoothie bowl ahead of time?

Fruit smoothie bowls are best enjoyed fresh, but you can prep the ingredients ahead of time. Freeze your fruit in portions and store them in a container or bag. When you’re ready, just blend and top—it makes mornings faster without losing flavor.

What fruit works best in a fruit smoothie bowl?

The best fruit for a fruit smoothie bowl includes bananas for creaminess, berries for sweetness and antioxidants, and citrus like oranges for a refreshing kick. Frozen fruit helps give it that thick, spoonable texture we all love.

How do I make my fruit smoothie bowl thicker?

To thicken a fruit smoothie bowl, use frozen fruit and limit the liquid. Bananas and mango are great for a creamy texture. If it’s too runny, toss in a few ice cubes or a bit more frozen fruit and blend again.

Can I add greens to a fruit smoothie bowl without changing the flavor?

Yes! Adding a handful of spinach to your fruit smoothie bowl is an easy way to boost nutrients without affecting the taste. It blends right in with the fruit, so you get the benefits without the “green” flavor.
