Sweet. Soothing. Refreshing. Hydrating. This Pineapple Mint Smoothie happens to be my literary agent’s favorite recipe of all time. If you close your eyes while sipping it down, you might even teleport to a poolside bar and think it’s a pineapple mojito (you wouldn’t be the first!).

Ingredients You’ll Need

Head to the grocery store and gather the following fruits, leafy greens and fresh herbs to create this delicious mint smoothie. No matter where you serve it, a juicy, sweet pineapple mint smoothie is amazing. It’s the perfect summer drink to cool down, hydrate and feel amazing!

  • Kale: The king of the leafy green family, kale is packed with fiber and phytonutrients that our body loves.
  • Coconut Water: This is the most hydrating liquid base out there. I love using it as a post-workout smoothie or on a hot day.
  • Pineapple: This natural sweetener turns this healthy smoothie into a decadent poolside cooler.
  • Lime: Fresh limes make the most vibrant flavors and can be blended effortlessly into a mint smoothie.
  • Mint: Mint is a natural stimulant, which can help your perk up during a painfully slow afternoon, or even give you a healthy jolt before you head to the gym.

If you’re not a fan of kale in your smoothies but want to be, then this is a great gateway smoothie. The pineapple and coconut water up the sweetness + tone down the bold kale flavor.

How to Make Pineapple Mint Smoothie

This Pineapple Mint Smoothie comes together fast, and the steps matter for the smoothest texture and brightest flavor.

  1. Start by adding the kale and coconut water to your blender. Blending the greens first helps fully break down the kale so you don’t end up with leafy bits. This step is especially helpful if you’re newer to green smoothies or using a lower-powered blender.
  2. Once the kale mixture is smooth, add the frozen pineapple, fresh mint, lime juice, and protein powder if you’re using it. Blend again until thick and creamy. The frozen pineapple creates a naturally cold, refreshing smoothie without ice, while the mint and lime add a clean, citrusy finish.
  3. Taste and adjust if needed. Add a splash of coconut water to thin it out or a few extra mint leaves if you want more of that cool, refreshing kick. Pour into a glass and enjoy right away for the best flavor and texture.

Common Questions

How much mint should I add to my smoothie?

I typically stick to 1/4 cup or less when adding herbs to smoothies. I really want the mint to shine in this pineapple mint smoothie, so I add the whole 1/4 cup. Feel free to start with less if this is your first time trying fresh mint!

Can I use dried mint in a smoothie?

I don’t recommend it. Dried mint has a different flavor, and consistency and doesn’t hold the nutritional benefits found in fresh. I do recommend growing your own mint! It’s super easy to do and allows you to grab a garnish any time you want.

How do I lower the natural sugar in a smoothie?

Use a low-sugar fruit to naturally lower the sugar. If the pineapple in this pineapple mint smoothie is too much, then use half of the measurement called for and add in raspberries, blackberries or peaches to help lower the sugar.

Soooooo ReFreshing after my 2 mile walk w/ both Dogs. I may have gone overboard w/my Mint, however it needed to be picked. The Lime added the perfect touch to the flavor. Pineapple Mint may be my new Favorite.

Made this for the fam today. Didn’t have enough pineapple so I added frozen mango. Mom and I liked them. The girls, ages 4-3/4 and 6-3/4, said it tasted like grass. (Even though I added a smidge of maple syrup, and flaked coconut to the girls’ smoothies to try and get them to like them.) Reminded me of the Grasshopper from the much missed Gravity Bar in Seattle. I will try fresh pineapple next time, along with coconut water ice cubes.

Great combination of ingredients for a stimulating and refreshing green smoothie! Picked the mint right outside my kitchen door.

I REALLY enjoyed this smoothie combination. It did perk me up this AM. It was also the smoothest “smoothie” recipe, I have ever made. I had some C2O pineapple water that I used as my liquid! Yum-o

I love how refreshing this one is!
Pineapple and mint goes well together, even in marinades! It’s a plus for me.

I am not a mint in smoothie fan so I omitted the mint. I used spinach instead of kale and I put in a spoonful of coconut butter to amp the flavour. I think I would add more to it if I made it again like strawberries or watermelon.

Refreshing and good flavor So far 2nd place. Will be hard to top the watermelon! I did add bit more coconut water to thin a bit. Nice to pick my mint and be able to use in something yummy

This recipe was slightly different from others with greens in them for me because of the kale: I could detect (taste) the kale in there. It was a little bit like having some flavor of grass clippings in my smoothie but I like both kale and grass and enjoyed this! Besides that, you get the flavor of mint and pineapple. But I have to warn people: if you’re used to putting spinach in a smoothie, which you can’t detect at all, you wil notice the kale, so brace yourself!

I like this smoothie. I am not a big fan of coconut water or kale but it didn’t matter for this . The main taste is mint and pineapple. I would make this again.

Loved this smoothie! SGS got me started with putting mint in my smoothies and with eating kale. This smoothie was fantastic. And I love pineapple. It really helps to reduce inflammation and open up my sinuses.
I have an abundance of mint in my garden, so this was great to use a lot of mint in my smoothie. Really refreshing. I used plain water in mine to reduce the sugar and calories and still loved it. I also tried adding beet greens to one batch since the kale in my garden was not quite enough to harvest the full serving of kale and it was quite tasty. This one goes in my “make again” pile. Lots of options to play around with too.

This may very well be my FAVORITE SMOOTHIE of all time, and to be honest I didn’t think I was going to like it, but it is FABULOUS! I did sub the kale for Spinach! SO YUMMY!
