Smoothies are the perfect fast food when you’re craving something quick and nutritious, and this creamy, blueberry spinach smoothie doesn’t disappoint. It’s a great recipe for kids as well as adults!
Turn a fruit smoothie into a green smoothie
Transforming a fruit smoothie into a green smoothie is super easy and the added health benefits don’t hurt. Adding leafy greens to a fruit smoothie provides extra nutrients to break down the natural sugar in fruit, which then allows your body to burn that energy slower + longer. That means you aren’t hungry an hour after downing this blueberry spinach smoothie!
You can take any smoothie recipe you love and add 1 cup (or a handful of spinach or another smoothie-approved leafy green) to it and you won’t even taste the difference. Yet you can be proud of yourself for adding a whole cup of spinach to your body! New to leafy greens? Start with 1/4 cup in this blueberry spinach smoothie, then work your way up to a full cup. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your tastebuds adapt to that leafy green goodness.
Blueberry spinach smoothie ingredient swaps
I always say smoothies are versatile, however, this especially applies to any smoothie with berries. There are so many types of berries available, and pretty much any of them can be swapped in for the blueberries in this recipe. I love the Costco bags of frozen mixed berries, and often use that in this blueberry spinach smoothie.
Any plant milk works in place of the almond milk base. You might get a different taste + texture depending on what you use, yet you might find a new fav combo too! Looking for a non-banana substitute? Mango works great, and has a little less sugar than banana.
Finding the best almond milk
There are so many almond milk brands on the market right now! How do I know which one is best? My rawkstar team actually tested as many brands as we could find, to bring you our top almond milk picks. Yet did you know making your own almond milk is super easy too? I’ve got a no-fail recipe, along with a few tips to help you make delicious homemade almond milk as well. Choosing your fav option only adds to the nutrient value of this blueberry spinach smoothie.
Organic vs non-organic blueberry spinach smoothie ingredients
While I try to buy organic ingredients for my smoothies, it’s not always possible or in the budget. So I use EWG’s Dirty Dozen guide to know which produce should be organic if possible. This guide provides the most up-to-date info on a variety of produce, so I know what I’m putting into my body, as well as feeding to my kids. Some ingredients for this blueberry spinach smoothie are on the Dirty Dozen list, so I make sure to buy the organic versions.

★★★★★
Just made this one. I did not like the taste that much. However I replaced spinach with kale. So it could be my own fault there. May try again with spinach. Maybe.
★★★
One of my favorites! The berry banana combo is yummy,
★★★★★
This was just alright, but I did add kale, so maybe I added too much? All I tasted was the kale.
★★★
Not a lover of Blueberries but this was quite tasty.
★★★★★
Yum, what’s not to like…..bananas, berries, and almond milk. So good!
★★★★★
Day 9, Berry Blast. I like it, it very bananaie, I find bananas over powering, next time I would put in half a banana, and I usually use a frozen banana, but today used a fresh one.
★★★★★
another good one!
on the sweeter side With banana and berries but could be adjusted easily
★★★★★
I think I put too much banana in my smoothie today. That’s all I tasted but then I add a tumeric ice cube and then it tasted like pineapple. It was really good.
★★★★★
I am really enjoying this smoothie challenge. Although I have been a vegan or eating plant-based for over 30 years, I have truly been excited to see that there are so many others beginning to see the health benefits and the delicious meals that make up the plant-based lifestyle. Thanks so much, I have become a little more consistent with the smoothies because of this challenge.
★★★★★
Berries are excellent in smoothies. I prefer water vs almond milk however.
★★★★
Day #9 and going strong!
★★★★★
This is one of my favorite smoothie! I have lost three ponds so far by replacing a meal
★★★★★
One of my favorites! Yummmm…
★★★★★
I used blueberries and strawberries. I didn’t have a full cup of unsweetened almond MALK, but topped it off with some unsweetened macadamia cashew milk from Trader Joe’s. I would have liked it better without the chocolate in there, but that was simply using what was on hand. It was one of my top three favorites of the challenge, so far. One day to go!
★★★★★
This is my favorite. So refreshing and delicious.
★★★★★
Yet another delicious smoothie! I used A date and 1/2 cup avocado instead of the banana.
Very nice flavour ! This is a keeper !
★★★★★
Great tasting green smoothie.
I love berries so I was really surprised to find that it wasn’t my fav, but I’d make it again.
★★★★
Like this one and the colour doesn’t scary me off…lol Some of the brown ones taste good but shouldn’t be served in a see-through cup.
Purple I can handle.
★★★★★
Nice and easy and tasty!
★★★★★
I love bananas so i LOVED this one and the almond milk gave it a smooth texture!
★★★★★
Really good, one of my husbands favorite! Even our grown son stopped by and I shared with him.
★★★★★
This is a good mix, I used blueberries, rasberries and strawberries for my “blend” I also added chocolate whey protein to vary it a bit. Will try again with more of the red berries an less blueberries, personal preference.
★★★★
I liked this one, very fresh and since I live berries kind of a no brainer for me.
★★★★★
Added fresh herbs to this one, just because (it’s another square to mark off my bingo card).
★★★★★
I really enjoyed this recipe!
I used:
Unsweetened Vanilla Almond (added about a 1/4 c of water)
my mixed berries consisted of: Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries
added 1/4 c (4tbsp) hemp seeds
Swapped spinach for 65g of Kale
Not my favorite I used mixed berry: raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and added the banana.
★★★
I really liked this one. I only used half a banana, plus added 1 tsp of peanut butter and a turmeric smoothie cube.
★★★★★
Was good and refreshing but not my best
I replaced banana with avocado
★★★★
This is one of my favorites. I used water instead of almond milk though.
★★★★★
Really good. Enjoyed this one.
Forgot to put my banana in the freezer, so it was not very cold. Definitely tastes better when it is colder, but not bad.
★★★★
Definitely not one I will make again, this was the first time I could not drink a smoothie, ended up having to dump it out 🙁
★
This is my favorite everyday smoothie. With the berries and banana, it is a staple of my smoothie repetoire.
For more exotic, I do add pineapple, coconut water, oats, and protein powder.
★★★★★
This smoothie was very tasty. I liked the flavors unlike yesterday’s. Thanks for the challenge.
★★★★★
Very good! A little sweet without being too much
★★★★★
Great Combo, Still dont like the banana, Used some manuka honey to make mine tday with Chia seeds.
★★★★★
Day nine
Berry Blast
Used Kale, 1/2 banana, 1/2 advocado and frozen strawberries and grapes.
★★★★
Hmmmm…it was good but not great!
★★★★
Day 9
My go to smoothie!
Enjoy the berry taste!
★★★★★
Was good, but not as good as some of the others. I used a mix of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and then a banana. Had a great color, but to me tasted a bit bland. I used frozen raspberries and strawberries and fresh blueberries. Maybe they were not as sweet after being frozen. I’d make this again trying a different variety of fruits.
★★★
Another simple and simply delicious smoothie! I boosted this one with super food greens.
★★★★★
Enjoyed this berry smoothie today. I used the triple blend mixed berries from Costco. Worked perfectly.
★★★★
Loved, loved loved!
★★★★★
Very good! I used frozen mixed berries and unsweetened cashew milk. Next time I may try just blueberries or mix blueberries and strawberries.
★★★★
Made mine with anti-oxidant smoothie cubes for the mixed berries. My Challenge favorite.
★★★★★
I only had 1/2 banana to put in, and it wasn’t very sweet but I didn’t want to use more fruit because I added 3 vitamin C smoothie cubes. It still was not as sweet as yesterday but that’s fine with me. I used a collard green leaf for some of the spinach, unflavored protein powder, and ground flax to add some protein and fiber.
★★★★
Not so keen on the taste of this one. Maybe if I had used fresh bananas instead of frozen ones, it would have been a bit more tasty. Colour was not so inviting either. Still Rawking it, though!
★★★
Yum! This is a classic and so easy to make.
★★★★★
Delicious!
★★★★★
I did my usual glow protein powder and 2 Tbsp chia seeds. I finished that canister of protein powder. It was good. I got it on clearance at Whole Foods. Now I have to work through my raw garden canister.
★★★★
Yum! that sums it 🙂
★★★★★
Delicious!
★★★★★
Good, but thin for me. I added more greens and 1/2 an apple, which made it just right.
★★★★
Thank you
I enjoyed the smoothie, tasty and I got to share with my family too. I followed the instruction to prep for a week so I found it very easy.
Loved loved loved this one!!
★★★★★
Yum! Berries and banana are the perfect combination! This smoothie is a winner!!
★★★★
Liked, this one, also used strawberries and blueberries and added kale in place of the spinach. And threw in some dark cherries.
★★★★★
Day 9 smoothie with strawberries blueberries and some blackberries that I picked in my own backyard over the summer! Love it.
★★★★★
Love the flavor and color of the Berry Blast. This one will go on my rotation.
★★★★★
Yum! I made mine with blackberries and a coconut milk boost cube. I love how it tastes.
★★★★★
Delicious berry flavor and easy to take on the go
★★★★★
By far this one is my favorite. I used a Cherry Berry blend fruit pack, Almond Milk and a bit of cocoa powder.
Yum! 🙂
★★★★★
I love the Berry Blast and will be making this one a lot for sure!
★★★★★
This is one of my favorites. I added a teaspoon of powdered peanut butter to it. Great taste and I was full.
★★★★★
I used a pre-packaged frozen berry mixture that had cherries, blackberries, strawberries and blueberries. I’m not a fan of all the blackberry seeds, so will leave out the blackberries next time I make it. Boosted with almond butter and it was good.
★★★★★
Too much banana for me. Though I made the day 7 and 8 smoothies, circumstances made that I didn’t rate them on their given days so I will do it in this comment. Day 7: Loved the tartness. Very refreshing, 5 stars, Day 8: The colour wasn’t great but the flavours were delicious!, 5 stars
★★
I enjoyed this smoothie this morning! Added kale today with the spinach. Kale is not my favorite but I gave it a try today. I loved the berries and banana.
★★★★★
Very good even though I was used to adding 1/2 banana and that’s what I did today. But it was still good.
★★★★★
This one was delicious, almost dessert like.
★★★★★
This one was pretty good! It will get added to my smoothies that I will continue to make!
★★★★★
Missed day 7 – but loving the challenge
It’s gotten me back on track.
Tastes like black forest cake
★★★★★
Great smoothie! I added vitamin C cubes to it as I’m trying to get rid of a cold. Tasted great! Will make again.
★★★★★
This smoothie is good but not my favorite.
★★★★
Another winner. So tasty, yet so simple. I guess that’s the idea, right?
★★★★★
Very good, I prefer smoothies with almond milk over water or coconut water and this one did not disappoint!
★★★★★
Ok texture. Not just as fruity as some of the others. Not a fan of the almond milk.
★★★
I think this one is my new favorite!!! Added some plant protein powder to it which added nicely!
★★★★★
Used cherries, strawberries & blueberries & avocado, the banana was too green. I love having almond milk in the smoothie!
★★★★★
Kinda bland. Tough in the winter where most fruits are frozen
★★
Can never go wrong with bananas and berries! This combo is a ‘Go-To’ for me…
★★★★★
Okay, I made this today and it is good. I added another turmeric boost cube. I probably should have let it blend a little longer, still had some seeds from the blackberries in the fruit.
★★★★★
Yum! Loved this one!
★★★★★
One of my favorites! I am seeing a pattern of what I like and if I like it I will stick to it. The purple color and the sweet berries make this one a winner for me. I enhanced it with a chia pudding smoothie cube I had made from the chia seed pudding recipe (my coconut milk was full fat and I ended up with something that was more of a fat bomb then a pudding, but I turned my lemons into lemonade!). I also upped the berry flavor with a bit of a berry flavored oil. My berry mixture on this was a store brand called Cherry Berry Blend: cherries, blackberries, black raspberries and blueberries.
★★★★★
I like this smoothie a lot.
I added some avocado. I’m not a huge fan of bananas but I can’t taste it in this recipe. I’m also not a fan of raspberry seeds so I don’t think I’d make this one on my own but it was good.
★★★★★
I liked the simplicity of the ingredients so I decided to make an additional one to take with me to work! Freeze it before I leave so it’s nice an cold when I’m on my break!
★★★★
Loved it (but I love anything with berries). It is good to have a new berry recipe.
★★★★★
I’m happy for the thickness back. I used avocado instead of banana. Added a bit of maple syrup and almond butter.
It was good. But I’m not a huge berry fan in smoothies. But still yummy.
★★★★
Great tasting smoothie.
★★★★★
Love the flavor of this one, lots of banana and berry taste. I added aronia berries and beet joluice as well.
★★★★★
This recipe is sweet and simple to prep. In the future I might even substitute water for the almond milk.
★★★★★
Nice and creamy! Lots of super nutrients for glowing skin. Delicious! ❤️
★★★★★
A little on the sweet side, as I substituted Coconut Water for the Almond Milk- but still wonderful! Will be making again for sure! Thank you for this recipe!
★★★★★
Ummmm…YUMMMMM! This is like the golden nugget of smoothies. Can’t go wrong. Good. Good. Great. ❤️❤️
★★★★★
I really liked this one and probably would have rated it higher if I had made it before I made the Very Berry smoothie with the orange added. After having that one, this one, though good, seemed to be missing the brightness and enhanced flavors of the Very Berry.
★★★★
None of my kids liked this one. Maybe it was the blackberries (which aren’t quite as sweet)?
I like it!
★★★★
I used rapsberrys and it was delicious
★★★★★
