When recommending recipes to anyone new to green smoothies, I always recommend Beginner’s Luck, but also any simple smoothie with familiar flavors. Strawberry banana smoothies are a favorite of many, which is why I wanted to create a healthy strawberry banana smoothie that was dairy-free and plant-powered.

What is The Best Time of Day To Drink a Green Smoothie?

We get this question a lot. The answer is simple: drink your smoothie when you feel like it best fits into your day.

Some of our team love a green smoothie as a breakfast meal replacement. Others drink a green smoothie once or twice a day as a snack.

If you do use a green smoothie to replace a meal, please read this post as a guide. You’ll want to add in extra protein and healthy fats to make your smoothie more filling.

Strawberry and Banana: A Smoothie Dream Team

Strawberries and bananas are both nutritional powerhouses, and the two flavors pair well together. Banana can be overpowering sometimes, but combined with strawberry, it’s almost like they become one flavor.

Bananas and strawberries are both low glycemic fruits. They contain heart healthy dietary fiber that also keeps the bowels moving smoothly. The vitamin C in both fruits helps the body better absorb the iron in the spinach. Both strawberries and bananas can help with weight management and blood sugar regulation.

Strawberries, particularly if you didn’t pick them fresh from your garden, can be on the tart side. The sweetness of the banana balances out the tartness just right. Bananas also make smoothies extra creamy.

Description

I grew up loving strawberry milkshakes that my dad would make. This is my healthier take on that—one that fuels me up and keeps me going. We also call this smoothie Strawberry Blast.


Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1/2 banana

Instructions

  1. Place spinach and almond milk in blender. Puree until smooth.
  2. Add remaining fruit and blend again.


Notes

Use at least one frozen fruit to make the smoothie cold or serve over ice.

    I actually really love this one. Since I’m allergic to tree nuts, I did Greek yogurt instead and it was delicious!

    Not sure if the frozen strawberries were just tasteless or what, but didn’t like this, seemed washed out 🙁

    Hey Liz,

    Loving all these smoothies. Added chia seeds and coconut oil to this one for more of a meal replacement. I don’t know why but this one wasn’t green. More of a dark berry color – maybe it was the frozen strawberries I used??

    I used half coconut milk and have almond milk, since I had leftover coconut milk in the fridge. A healthy strawberry milk shake!

    I loved this one! I love the creaminess of the banana!
    I must admit, I don’t measure now, just grab handfuls, 1/2 handfuls, it’s all good!

    This was quite tasty with the banana adding a nice fullness. I think this would be really nice with some fresh sunshine ripened strawberries when the summer arrives!

    I used frozen strawberries…I hate frozen strawberries. They have zero flavor. I added a beet to give it flavor. Next time I make, I’ll have to make it with fresh strawberries & then it might be a 5
