Strawberry Banana Green Smoothie

Strawberry Banana green smoothie

I’ve made this Strawberry Banana Green Smoothie almost every day for the past year. I guess I am kinda like my dad— when you find something that works, why change it up? It only has five ingredients (and one being water), doesn’t take much food prep, and tastes very yummy (seriously). My kids even ask for it! It’s such a proud moment as a parent when kids are craving fruits and veggies over processed foods. It doesn’t happen every day, but it does happen a LOT! Hope you enjoy my tried and true green smoothie recipe!

Strawberry Banana Blueberry Spinach Smoothie

Strawberry Banana Green Smoothie

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x
  • Category: Breakfast

We’ve combined four of our favorite fruits for this smoothie – and it’s a yummy one! The flavors are bright and sweet, and it’s full of fruity goodness. As far as nutrition goes, this smoothie offers up a bundle of antioxidants from vitamin C-rich oranges and strawberries, to potassium-loaded bananas, and anthrocyanin-packed blueberries. And don’t forget all the vitamin K and iron in the spinach.

  • 2 cups spinach (fresh)
  • 2 oranges (peeled and seeded)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup strawberries*
  • 1 cup blueberries*
  • 2 bananas

  1. Blend spinach, orange juice and water until smooth.
  2. Next add the remaining fruits and blend again.

*Use frozen strawberries and/or blueberries to make smoothie cold.

**You can also use 3/4 cup water and 3/4 cup orange juice in place of the oranges and 1/2 cup water.

Tip: Thanks to the blueberries, this green smoothie is more like a purple smoothie, which is great for kids and those who are afraid of the “green” color.

Are you juicing the orange? Or throwing in the whole orange (peeled and seeded)?

    Hi Liz,

Great question! We suggest adding the entire orange, but remove the peel + seeds prior to blending.

Interested in blending the peel? A small amount of orange peel can pack your green smoothie with a major nutrition boost. Learn more here…

Do you ever add nuts and seeds to your smoothies?

  4. SGS Rawkstar

    September 18th, 2016 at 12:59 pm

    Hi Bligey,

We love adding nuts and seeds to our green smoothies! They’re perfect for an added protein + healthy fat boost!

We add a 1/2 cup of toasted hazelnuts to our Warm Hazelnut Hot Chocolate Green Smoothie recipe!

    Can you freeze oranges?

  6. SGS Rawkstar

    August 29th, 2016 at 12:08 pm

    Hi Brittany,

You definitely can! We suggest peeling + segmenting your orange. Then lay your orange segments out on a parchment lined baking sheet in a single layer and place in the freezer till frozen. Once frozen you can transfer your orange segments into a ziploc or freezer safe container for storage.

This looks so delicious! I am allergic to oranges. Do you have a good substitute or can I leave them out of the recipe? Thanks!

What is the nutritional value of this smoothie?
    Thank you

  13. SGS Rawkstar

    January 18th, 2017 at 6:14 pm

    Hi Kathy,

We personally don’t count calories or focus on the numbers too much, so we don’t include them in our recipes at this time. You’ll find that when you consume more nourishing whole fruits and veggies, you will not only feel full longer, but you’ll also have lessened cravings for high-calorie, nutritionally empty foods. So in the end it balances out. But we know many people would like to have this information.

Three great resources for tracking nutritional information are Self Nutrition Data, and the phone apps: My Fitness Pal and Lose It.

This is a great smoothie recipe. I am not familiar with the apps you mentioned for tracking nutritional info but I tried inputting the ingredients into My Fitness Pal online since they had a food search option, and since this recipe is good for 2 servings, it looks like this will run about 1000 calories per serving. It’s delicious but wow, this is good for 1.5 meals!

I input 1 serving of this yummy smoothie into MyFitness Pal app and used almond milk instead of water and total calories was only 213!! Unsure of how the previous post from another person claims 1000 calories.

    Hi Jen,
I made the strawberry banana blueberry green smoothie for the first time for my whole family, and what do you know? They all loved it and were fighting for seconds…especially the kids!!
Thanks for such an awesome recipe! Quick question… my smoothie looked more brownish than purplish…any thoughts?

  18. SGS Rawkstar Amanda

    July 20th, 2017 at 10:41 pm

    Hi Sheela,

YAY!! I love hearing that this recipe was a hit! Smoothie a little more on the brown side? No worries. Green smoothies with dark berry like strawberries or blueberries will range from red, blue, purple + even brown. It’s all about the ripeness of the fruit!

Hi I was wondering your strawberry banana green smoothie do I drink all of it at once or is it for 2 servings? I’m new to this smoothie diet… thank you

  22. SGS Rawkstar Amanda

    August 3rd, 2018 at 2:19 pm

    Hi Tiffany,

This recipe serves two. So grab a friend or save the second serving for another time. Our recipes will keep in your refrigerator in an airtight container for up to two days. So you can always have a green smoothie on hand + ready to go!

Question: Can you provide that measurement in grams for 2 cups of spinach please? Sometimes I find volume based measurements for leafy greens difficult, because so much space is taken up with air with raw, leafy greens. Thanks!

  24. SGS Rawkstar Amanda

    August 28th, 2018 at 1:40 pm

    Hey Jamie,

We think the best way to measure 2 cups of spinach is with 2 big handfuls. The more greens you can pack into your smoothie the better!

Loving your recipes! Especially this one & I can’t wait to try one… i just wanted to know which smoothie do you recommend for clear skin? My dermatologist suggest that i should try green smoothies for my skin. (Something thats green but tasty!) 🙂

⭐️ Wanna make it everyday…. almost!
⭐️ At first, the spinach was all I could taste but I think it has do with our blender! ….the fruit didn’t thoroughly blend with the spinach, but thank God the blender got it together and started blending as it’s supposed to!
⭐️ For brain nutrition, seeds were added…at the end! Did not effect goodness of taste!
⭐️ …Got breakfast for tomorrow! Thanks for the tip on how to save your smoothies!
⭐️ Had all ingredients at home before making the smoothie! Didn’t have to go out and buy anything extra… how AWE-MAZING is God?!?

Would you tell me how to remove seeds as mentioned in an orange? Can’t I just section the orange after peeling
and toss in my vitamix? It would take so long to remove seeds, right? I take care of Hospice patient & do not have time
to remove seed or wash greens(I use triple washed hoping it is ok…wish I had time to wash those also)…thanks!

    May 2nd, 2019 at 2:23 pm

    Hey Nancy,

If your orange contains seeds then that is totally fine and you can still add them to your smoothie. Your blender should blend them up along with your smoothie.

    Hope that helps!
