Carrot Cake Smoothie

Carrot Cake Green Smoothie with bananas, carrots, ginger, and spinach on cutting board

Carrot Cake Smoothie | #vegan #glutenfree #greensmoothies

What’s better than a big slice of carrot cake? A Carrot Cake Smoothie with the same flavor but with a boost of leafy green goodness.

Here at SGS we like taking our favorite desserts and sweet treats and turning them into a healthier green smoothie. Case in point, this Carrot Cake Smoothie.

The thing that makes carrot cake so yummy is that blend of sweet carrots, spices (especially ginger and cinnamon), and creamy frosting. Well, this carrot cake smoothie does not contain creamy frosting. But it does include almond milk. Almost the same, right? 😉

For me carrot cake isn’t carrot cake without pineapple. Mmm! Carrots and pineapple are a match made in cake heaven.

Why You Should Blend With Ginger

Ginger is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory foods. The spicy, warm flavor touches just about every cuisine around the world. It makes everything better, including a warm mug our famous Morning Tonic first thing in the morning.

Ginger is a time tested natural remedy for boosting the immune system to combat everything from colds to stomach aches and nausea, to acting as a natural pain reliever and digestive aid to help relieve gas, and indigestion. There is even some evidence that ginger can help relieve menstrual pain. Ginger helps improve blood circulation and keeps blood sugar levels in check. You can also receive a natural boost of energy from ginger.

The beauty of ginger is that it can be used fresh or dried, juiced, or as an oil and you’ll still reap all of the benefits. And it’s easy to blend in your smoothie!

Carrot Cake Smoothie vs. Carrot Cake

I’m not going to tell you that you have to swap the “cake” for a nutrient-packed smoothie. Of course there is room for a big slice of carrot cake! But I also like to look at my daily meals as a chance to pack in as much plant-based nutrients as I can. If my green smoothie happens to taste like carrot or red velvet cake, so bet it.

Swap the “cake” for a nutrient-packed Carrot Cake Smoothie! The fresh ginger aids in inflammation, which will happen on a long run or a day of intervals. So gulp this one down and let it do its work!

  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • 3/4 cup almond milk, unsweetened
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1/4” fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1/2 cup pineapple
  • 1/2 banana

  1. Blend spinach and almond milk together until smooth.

  • Use at least one frozen fruit to make the smoothie cold or serve over ice.
  • Can chop and steam carrots to make them easier to blend, or leave them raw.

  1. Dawn says:

Loved this recipe! And it’s so versatile! I ran out of fresh spinach, so I used spinach orange ice cubes! Had a frozen banana and needed to use up 2 carrots.

  2. Antavia Walker says:

Wow not bad. I added cinnamon to my smoothie. Taste pretty good. I added raw carrots. I think i will cook my carrot next time. My blender chopped the carrots pretty good but its always a small piece or two not chopped.

    • SGS Rawkstar Jess says:

That happens to me sometimes, also. Cooking the carrots will def help with that! 🙂

  3. Cindy says:

How much dried/powdered ginger would I substitute for the fresh if I don’t have it on hand?

    • SGS Rawkstar Jess says:

Cindy, ground ginger is more for baking but if it’s all you have, it will def work for smoothies. You’ll want to use 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger for every tablespoon of fresh ginger that your recipe calls for. (Ground is much more concentrated in flavor than fresh.) 🙂

  4. SHEILA says:

OMG! I thought I was eating a piece of carrot cake! So yummy! A must try!!!

  5. Lorraine Kgosidintsi says:

I want to admit I believed its actually a cake! Well I am inlove.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Lorraine,

I have to agree. There is no way this is a healthy smoothie with how good it tastes 🙂

  6. Anita says:

Four stars- used baby kale, soaked raw almonds and half an avocado and the remainder as listed was much better for my taste.

  7. Beth says:

I didn’t mind this smoothie. I think it would have been better (for me) had I added some cinnamon. I may not have used enough ginger. I also used coconut milk instead of almond milk. I feel this smoothie has very healthy I ingredients.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Beth,

Yum I bet adding some cinnamon would have tasted delicious! You are right coconut milk would give it a different taste but I am sure that it still tasted great.

  8. Valerie W says:

Well mine was an orange smoothie, as I ran out of greens! At least it had carrot! I might have added too much ginger, but it was still good.

  9. Carol says:

My favorite this week is the carrot cake. I loved the spicy taste of the ginger.

  10. Cory says:

Not my favorite but still good!

  11. Cecily says:

I really liked this one. I forgot to put in the ginger, but still really good!

  12. Tanya says:

I love carrot cake, so this smoothie is perfect for me! I get my carrot cake flavors with the added benefits of greens – such a great feeling!

  13. Venita says:

SO many of the recipes this week have pineapple & I’m allergic to pineapple 🙁 Wish there was a good substitute!

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

You can always substitute pineapple with oranges, peaches, or mangoes. They are super delicious too =P

If you ever have a question about a substitution guide:

  14. Bonnie says:

This was definitely a meal in glass! My pallet wanted more flavour as the ginger was too over powering. So instead of throwing it out I just added a vanilla protein powder to it and it smoothed out all the flavors and made it into a protein packed snack!

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

Way to go with making your smoothie work for you + getting that extra protein in!

  15. Bethany Vines says:

It tasted pretty bland to me. My pineapple may not have been sweet enough. I added a little coconut milk and pineapple juice and it was a lot better.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Bethany,

If your fruit isn’t just ripe then it will have a bitter taste. You can always add some all natural sweeteners like honey when that happens 🙂

  16. Anita says:

Two stars. Was okay. Enjoyed the ginger in my stomach and tongue. I enjoy eating ginger plain.

  17. Julie says:

I love carrot cake and this is no exception either! I ate it so fast, I almost had brain freeze!

  18. Mireille says:

Love this one. I especially love the recipes that are less sweet and dessert-like and have veggies in them for daily meals.

  19. Kathy says:

Love this one – definitely a make again recipe!

  20. Georgie says:

A new favorite! Very sweet with the banana. Even my 90 year old mother asked to try a sip… she liked it and wanted a glass full. Yay mom! Five stars all the way!

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Yay Georgie!!

That is so awesome that your mother loved it as well. You proved that green smoothies are meant for any age 🙂

  21. Rebecca knievel says:

I bumped up the ginger a bit (just because I love ginger)and the almond milk gives this smoothie just a bit of smoothness. So easy to drink!

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Rebecca,

Way to get in extra nutrients with this smoothie.

      You rawk!

  22. Kim says:

I’ve had other smoothies with ginger that I haven’t really liked, so I was a little apprehensive about this one, but it tastes really good and it does remind me of carrot cake. I love knowing that I’m getting a daily dose of greens with this 30 day challenge, it feels good physically and mentally!

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Kim,

I am so glad that you decided to still give this one a try even though your past smoothies haven’t been a huge hit. Carrot cake is one of my favorite desserts so I absolutely love this one!!

  23. Brittani Kendrick says:

Who would have thought I would like a smoothie that’s mostly green!!

  24. Bonnie Good says:

I like the flavour but not so much the consistency. Next time I will take advice of fellow Rawkstar from the board and try blanching the carrots first. It’s all about finding what works for you.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Bonnie,

Also, try blending the carrots first with your liquid before adding your remaining ingredients. Depending on what blender you have you might need to blend it in stages to get the right consistency.

  25. Neal says:

At first I wasnt sure about this, then I took some gulps that actually did taste like carrot cake !
Doubled up on my green smoothies today and had this for dinner along with some nuts as I ate late.
I used 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric instead of ginger as I had none, and added some extra avocado.
Not one that I would run back to to be honest but it did the job and I feel great about using things like avocado and carrots in my smoothies.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Neal,

Way to make this smoothie rawk for you by using ingredients you have on hand.

  26. Genevieve says:

I made this smoothie this morning and am actually drinking it while making this comment! Love this smoothie. I was a bit worried initially about adding the ginger as its so strong. I was wrong haha goes so well! I’m trying to beat a cold at the moment so all the extra natural help I can get is good! 5/5 for this recipe! 🙂

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Thanks Genevieve!

Hope this helps knock that cold out of your system for good!
