  • 1 orange (peeled)

Instructions

  1. Blend kale and water until smooth.

Love it. Adding to my other favorite green smoothies. Thank you

  5. MG says:

From a Chinese Medicine food therapy perspective, greens are cold, which can be tough on the digestive system. You might try adding something with a warm property, like ginger, to help balance the cold nature of the greens. You could also try lightly sautéing the greens before blending!

      Hi MG,

Thanks for sharing. We love adding ginger and other digestive spices to our green smoothies like cayenne and cinnamon. Check out a few of our favorite “spiced” green smoothies below…

  6. Laurel says:

I like the idea of green smoothies, but get gassy after consuming raw kale. Any ideas? Maybe substitute spinach? Or, could I steam the kale first?

    • Laurel says:

Ah, I just skimmed your article on rotating greens. It seems that I have quite a few good choices that I could substitute for kale. I especially like the idea of throwing in some cilantro!

      • SGS Rawkstar says:

        Hi Laurel,

Our recipes are here to inspire you, so don’t hesitate to swap in different greens like spinach!

Still feeling gassy? Make sure you drink lots of water to help flush everything out as well. Sometimes when you make sudden changes in your regular diet, or you add more fiber into your diet, your body needs to adjust. Every body reacts to food differently. Also, make sure you don’t eat any other foods 30-60 minutes before or after you drink your green smoothies to give your body time to digest the fruits.

        Hope this helps!

  7. laurie says:

I’m single and because this makes 2 serving sizes. Can i make it in the am and keep the 2nd service for the next morning? i like the simplicity of this smoothie.

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Laurie,

Of course you can! Simply store your second serving in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep for up to two days! Adding a small amount of lemon juice will also help preserve all of your smoothie’s green goodness. Notice some separation? No worries, it’s because our recipes don’t have any yucky additives, stabilizers or preservatives. Simply give your smoothie a quick shake before enjoying!

      Cheers 🙂

  8. stephanie scott says:

    Hello, there,
Is it best not to drink a smoothie in the night? Could
the fruit sugar impact one’s blood sugar, and keep you
    awake?

    Thanks

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Stephanie,

You can enjoy your green smoothie anytime of day. But you’re right, our smoothies give you a great energy boost, similar to a cup of coffee. So we suggest not enjoying your green smoothie too close to bed time.

      Hope this helps!

  9. Coreen says:

can you recommend a substitute for the orange? the acidity in orange wreaks havoc on my stomach. Would pineapple compliment?

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Coreen,

We’ve got you covered! Some great (non-citrus) orange substitutes are kiwifruit, mango, + papaya! Pineapple would also make a delicious addition to this recipe! 🙂

      Thanks for blendin’ with us!

  10. Verena says:

Loving your recipes. Can fresh cranberries be replaced with dried? Soaked, of course, before blending. I live in Australia and cannot get fresh or frozen cranberries. Or would blueberries be a better alternative?

    • SGS Rawkstar says:

      Hi Verena,

Great idea! Soaking dried cranberries prior to blending is a great option in this recipe. We also love the idea of substituting blueberries into this recipe, as both are high in antioxidants!
