Grad stories

I'm sleeping better, I'm happier and have more energy.

I've been walking every day with my dog or by myself with a book and doing strength training, which feels great. I've lost 7 pounds and have a better outlook because I don't have as much inflammation and fatigue.

A note from Jen

If you’re on the fence, I was too

Would the recipes actually be good? Would I just bounce right back to my old habits? Was it worth eating 100% plant-based for three weeks? Then about eight days in, I was hooked. Less bloated. Sleeping like a rock. Energy through the roof.

Most cleanses end and leave you exactly where you started — or worse, hooked on a product you have to rebuy. This one is different on purpose: you learn to cook real food, so you walk away with skills that don’t run out when the box is empty.

And if you’re nervous about the food? Remember — this is literally what I do. I make plant-based food that’s so good you forget it’s “healthy.” Because healthy should be tasty.

Common Questions

Will I be hungry while on a detox body cleanse?

Not likely. The recipe portions are deliberately generous to accommodate even the largest appetites. This is not a starvation diet, it is a celebration of food, flavor, and abundance. We are not counting calories. You will be eating three to five times each day (breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner, if you choose to.) This cleanse is not designed to starve you, and you’re not limited in the number of times you eat, or the amount you eat – only in what you eat. If you do get hunger pangs, make sure that you’re really hungry, and not just bored or thirsty. If it’s a case of real hunger, go for one of the bonus snack recipes, a piece of fruit, or a small handful of nuts, or seeds. One tip to avoid hunger is to chew your green smoothie. This may sound silly, but the chewing action signals your body that food is on the way, and triggers the digestive processes.

Do I need to buy any powders, shakes, or supplements?

Nope — and that’s the whole point. This cleanse runs entirely on real food you buy at your regular grocery store. No proprietary box, no capsules, no subscription. You’ll learn to cook with whole ingredients so your results actually last once the 21 days are up.

How much will the groceries cost on the 21-day cleanse?

You may have many of the staple ingredients in your kitchen already (avocado oil, raw cashews, maple syrup, ground cumin, nutritional yeast, coconut oil, etc). If you do not, the first shop typically costs about $150. Then, once your kitchen is set up, we estimate the cost of the produce to be between $100 per week. If you choose to supplement the plant-based recipes with high quality animal protein like organic chicken breast or cage free eggs, your grocery bill will be higher.

And remember — you’re buying real groceries, not a $400+ box of powders you’ll run out of. Most of this is food you’d be shopping for anyway, just put to much better use.

Can I have coffee and tea while cleansing?

If you struggle with getting quality sleep, we advise omitting coffee throughout the cleanse. You will get the best results and many cleanse grads choose to stay off coffee after the cleanse because they feel so great. If you and coffee aren’t ready to break up, we suggest having just one cup in the morning to support quality rest and sleep.

What if I can’t have certain nuts, veggies, fruits, etc.?

If you want the full benefit of cleansing your body, stick with the plan as close as possible. Our detox meals are crafted by our holistic nutritionist for optimal cleansing. This is not a vacation, it’s a cleanse. Yet of course if you truly cannot stand cilantro, turmeric or fennel, you can substitute them out for something you do enjoy, or choose another meal.

Can I go out to eat while cleansing?

Of course— life must go on! The 21-Day Cleanse is a flexible program that you can follow while living your life with family and friends. Using the weekly meal plans and recipes will help you get great results. But, you can still get good results by sticking to the recommended foods lists. You can eat “off meal plan”, eat out, and travel during the program— feel free to ask for tips inside the community to help you the most.

What are the side effects of the cleanse?

You may experience short-term symptoms like: headaches, bloating, muscle cramps, skin irritations, fatigue, irritability, mood swings, or change in bowel frequency. These symptoms are completely normal and expected.

It usually takes between 2-5 days to complete the withdrawal phase of the 21-Day Cleanse, yet it’s absolutely worth it. Giving your body a break from stimulants will allow your organs to heal and your body to recharge fully. Remember, these symptoms are proof that the cleanse is working and your body is getting the care it needs.

How long does the food prep take?

You’ll definitely spend more time in the kitchen throughout the cleanse. In some ways, this is like a crash course plant-based cooking school. I highly suggest following our prep guide to make most of the smoothies, snacks and meals over the weekend. Breakfast is a smoothie (10 minutes), lunch is a reheated soup or quick salad (15 minutes) and dinners will range from 15 minutes – 1 hour to prepare. The good news is, the dinners repeat so you make once and reheat for another evening to give you a break in the kitchen.

I have a crazy busy schedule, is this realistic for me?

We know all about busy schedules here, which is why we’ve provided a weekend prep guide that saves you tons of time during the week. If you’re working and have a full schedule, expect to spend 3-4 hours shopping and prepping on the weekends to make each cleanse week stress-free and enjoyable. The cleanse gives you a wonderful opportunity to really listen to your body. It’s an individual experience that differs for everyone. Depending on the level of toxicity in your body, there may be some less- than-amazing symptoms in the first 3–5 days, such as headaches, nausea, fatigue, skin irritations, etc. Once you hit day five, these should only be distant memories, and you’ll be well on your way to greatness. But some people sail through the entire cleansing period with no side effects at all. You may feel amazing throughout the entire cleanse, or your energy may wax and wane a little.

Who shouldn’t do a cleanse?

This cleanse is great for most people, yet you should avoid cleansing in the following situations: advanced cancer, under 16 years of age, if you have an eating disorder, kidney or liver disease, and if you’re underweight. If you have a blood sugar regulation issue (diabetes, hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia) or any other medical condition, you should seek your doctor’s advice before undertaking a cleanse. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you can absolutely do the cleanse with some modifications. If this is you, let us know and we can give you specific tweaks to the program to make sure you’re benefitting your baby and body.

Can I workout during the cleanse?

You may find that you have more energy than normal—and more motivation! Why waste it? Get moving! Be mindful that you may need to take it down a notch though as your body adjust to the new way of eating. If you normally exercise fairly intensely, reduce your output until you feel strong and energized.

If you don’t normally work out, you would do well to include some regular walking, yoga, swimming or gardening during this time. Try to sneak in some incidental exercise, such as getting off the train or bus one or two stops early and walking the rest of the way. Or park further away from the entrance to the grocery store and walk.

Can my husband do this with me?

Absolutely. My husband loves our cleanses — the clear plans, the tasty recipes, and how good he feels by the end. Just double the grocery list and recipes so there’s enough for you both.

What is your refund policy?

We offer a 7-day money back guarantee. Enroll now and get 7 days to go through the Week 1 Nutrition Plan, share it with your doctor, try a recipe or three, and say hello to your fellow cleansers in the private support group. If you decide it’s not for you, send us an email within 7 days of purchase and I’ll refund you. I’m that confident that when you commit to this cleanse, you’ll see results… and keep them going. You have nothing to lose but so much to gain when you go plant-based for 21 days.

I’ve never done a cleanse, or anything like this program before but I knew I wanted to make a major shift in my eating habits. This was such a great first step! The program was well planned out, the shopping lists, prep suggestions and meal plans made it all feel very doable for me and easy to incorporate into my schedule. The smoothies, snacks and meals were good, I was pleasantly surprised by how many I will continue to incorporate into my life. Also the Support group, coaching calls and emails helped to keep me motivated. I am excited to keep what I have learned going and growing! Thanks Jen and team!

I’ve been a vegetarian for over 3 years and vegan for over a year now so I’m not unfamiliar with plant based diets. However, having followed this plan for one week, I already see the change in the level of energy I feel in my body. I love the smoothies and the snacks. The recipes are easy to make and delicious.

I can describe how amazing I feel after 3 weeks of eating vegan. Kinda shocked actually that I did it! Something fun that I did with my sister and we ended the cleanse today on her 53rd birthday and we both feel incredible and are continuing with the smoothies and also more vegetarian choices in our lifestyle. This has made a huge impact in our lives and we will both be continuing on. We each own both cookbooks have the protein powder and are excited to try more recipes. Thanks for a new outlook on health.

Wow! I have been following SImple Green Smoothies online for about a year. I finally took the plunge signed up the Spring Cleanse and it was amazing. I was nervous about staying on track and prepping etc. but didn’t need to be. Jen was super supportive the weekly calls were recorded so I could watch them at my leisure and the recipes are fantastic. Some days seemed like too much food! I feel so good and plan on eating this way moving forward. Highly recommend jumping in and taking care of your body. No time like today!

The 21-day cleanse did wonders for me. I feel better, my bowls are regular- constantly. And my skin is glowing! I did not lose as much weight (only 4 pounds) as I thought I would; I have a very slow metabolism and have lived with chronic constipation my whole life, and so I expected more to be “released”. I think I’m gonna give it a another try.

Loved the challenge and most of the recipes! 😉Did I give it 100% to be honest no I didn’t I gave it about 50%. The prep is overwhelming and I see the advantage to a pre prep phase! I really struggled with week 2 and am somewhat disappointed I wasn’t more diligent. So week 3 wasn’t much better. I tried many of the recipes but still have a few to try. The only criticism is cilantro lol. I understand parsley is a substitute. All that being said this is a lifestyle change and it takes time to truly do a complete change. I started with the 10 day salad challenge enjoyed the originality of the tastes so decided to take on the 21 day challenge. Although this was my first time as rawkstar it’s not my first vegan challenge. I have made some discoveries this time, gluten is not my friend and neither is dairy. Not so much allergies but rather sensitivity to these items. Not sure I can totally give up cheese lol! So Thank you Jenn and team for some great meals that will stay in my repertoire. Loved the key lime pops and the strawberry lemon chia pudding and the mixed nuts!

What a great way to kick-start the Spring. I enjoyed the recipes camaraderie and was happy to lose some weight. I often feel bloated and that completely went away during the cleanse what a great feeling! I am excited to keep cooking up these fabulous recipes although I will make larger servings so I don’t have to cook as often!

If you need a jumpstart to healthy eating this is it! At first it seems difficult because it is a complete re-boot to your digestive system. I was never hungry and felt great. Even if you never thought you could go completely vegetarian it is a great way learn how to enjoy more vegetables in your diet. I highly recommend.

I am so happy I committed to this cleanse! I feel great after just 21 days and am looking forward to continuing the maintenance program to keep the feeling & results going! I lost 6 lbs so far. I took this cleanse to figure out what my food sensitivities are and will slowly reintroduce some of the things I miss. For me best part of the cleanse was how organized and prepared I felt doing it. Prep for this cleanse is essential otherwise it is so easy to fall off the wagon if you don’t have the right foods in front of you when you need them. I was also surprised about how much lighter I feel in the belly! The recipes tasted so refreshing and there was definitely enough food. I probably overdid it on the power trail mix but overall still satisfied! Next steps for me are to incorporate many of these into the regular family rotation. Thank you Jen & your team!

Before the cleanse I was having stomach issues and could not sort out why. During the cleanse they went away until one day when I caved to my cravings and the next day stomach issues were back worse than before. At least I found out what one of the culprits were! The recipes are all wonderful and so well laid out from shopping lists to prep and presentation. The participants were so very helpful and loving. So much support through the entire experience. Thank you!!!

Spring Cleanse

I started the cleanse because I didn’t like how I was feeling. I was always tired had random minor aches and pains and had major acid reflux and bloating. After joining the cleanse I soon found out what an undertaking it would be. There would be no “quick fixes”. There were no shortcuts. This cleanse would take planning dedication and follow-through. This was especially difficult for me because I eat on the fly rarely planning meals in advance much less prepping. The initial shopping trip was also a challenge. I had to take my patience with me because some of the items were foreign to me and there is a lot to get. After purchasing everything for week 1 I had to begin the task of prepping and cooking (and it IS a task). I didn’t get it all done that day before the cleanse started. Then I struggled with the snacks for the week because most were kinda sweet and I’m not really a sweets snacker. I felt so discouraged. I went to the Facebook support group and found that while there were some real RAWK stars with beautiful pictures of their prepping all laid out there were also others who like me were struggling. I wasn’t alone! The group members offered support and inspiration. Throughout the cleanse I began to figure out that it wasn’t about perfection it was about learning what worked best for me and my body. I started making switches to snacks that better addressed my snack cravings. I also learned (in the group) that it was ok if I “fell off the wagon”. I just had to get up and back on. I was never hungry. The meals were ALL delicious (even when I made one of them too spicy)! I fell into a groove of selecting meals appropriate for the current week and getting them prepped. I was feeling great! I slept so well without the coffee (which I love) that I’ve decided to find a caffeine-free all-natural alternative going forward. Sleeping better increased my energy. The brain fog is gone. The aches are gone. And I can’t remember the last time my digestive system was this calm. I don’t want to go back to the unnecessary suffering. I’m loving how I feel and I plan to make eating this way my lifestyle. It wasn’t easy. It was SO worth it! I recommend everyone try this cleanse at least once. I don’t think you’ll be able to deny the difference it makes in your health and in your life!

Spring Cleanse

When I first heard of the 21-day cleanse I immediately thought “there’s no way I could eat like that for so long.” Besides being sure I couldn’t do it I’ve been intimidated by the idea of cooking for a plant based diet my whole life. But here’s the thing. I’ve been working out 6 days a week for 5 months…and haven’t lost 1 measly pound. So I decided to sign up and see what happened and I’m SO glad I did! Not only was it incredibly easy to shop and cook under Jen’s awesome guidance but I found after the first few days of ‘withdrawals’ from all the junk poisoning my body — that I wasn’t hungry!! I mean there were enough of the meals for my husband to give this lifestyle a try too since I wasn’t even hungry enough to eat full servings. So here I am…finally 15 lbs lighter full of energy and grateful for this simple opportunity to easily experience what felt like the world’s most complicated lifestyle 21 days ago. Now I’ve decided that the journey doesn’t end here for me. I’ve signed up for maintenance through the Rawkstar membership and am currently using my shiny new food prep skills to get ready for another week ahead! This was life-changing! Thank you Jen!

The 21 day spring cleanse was a unique experience. The first few days were hard because of the caffeine withdrawals but the yummy recipes helped me through. The recipes were delicious and sometimes surprising and didn’t take too long to cook. I didn’t like all the smoothies but tried them. The second week (detox)was no piece of cake for me because you know no carbs. The meal prepping was new for me but with so many meals it was essential to prep at least a few things.I am a little proud of myself I kept to the plan and got some good benefits out of it: natural energy no bloated belly and lots of tasty recipes. The support group was a big help too. Thank you Jen for this cleanse and inspiration.
