I created this coconut pineapple smoothie when I wanted something refreshing and satisfying, but not overly sweet or heavy. One sip in, I knew I had to share this super yummy and healthy recipe with you. It’s dairy-free, banana-free, and lower in sugar than many fruit smoothies, yet it still tastes like a tropical treat you’d happily sip on a warm afternoon.

This smoothie recipe is intentionally simple, with each ingredient chosen to create a creamy texture and bold tropical flavor—without bananas, dairy, or unnecessary added sugars.
- Pineapple (fresh or frozen): The star of the show. Pineapple brings a naturally sweet, slightly tangy tropical flavor that keeps this smoothie bright and refreshing. If you snag a whole one, I can help you cut pineapple.
- Frozen peaches: Peaches soften pineapple’s tang with gentle sweetness and a juicy, almost floral note. This low-sugar fruit help round out the flavor so the smoothie tastes smooth and balanced rather than sharp. If you have extra, make my peach smoothie next.
- Coconut yogurt: This creates a creamy, satisfying base without dairy. Coconut yogurt works especially well for pineapple smoothies, adding richness while keeping the flavor neutral. Many dairy-free yogurts include extra additives, so it’s always worth checking the label or try my homemade coconut yogurt. I originally made this with cashew yogurt, yet it’s harder to find lately. And I think it’s even better with coconut yogurt.
- Pineapple chunks in juice: These boost the pineapple flavor and provide the liquid needed for smooth blending. Choosing pineapple packed in 100% juice keeps added sugars lower while making the smoothie extra fruity and vibrant.
There was a season when I thought every smoothie had to include a banana to taste good. If it didn’t, I assumed it would be watery, sour, or just… disappointing. But after years of blending (and listening to my body), I learned something important: bananas aren’t required for creaminess or sweetness—and sometimes, skipping them actually helps you feel better.

How to Make a Coconut Pineapple Smoothie
- Toss all the ingredients into a blender.
- Blend until smooth. Stop and scrape down the sides as needed. If your blender struggles, add a bit more liquid.
- Pour into glasses and enjoy your delicious pineapple smoothie!

- Use frozen fruit for the best texture. Frozen pineapple or peaches create a thicker, creamier smoothie without needing ice, which keeps the flavor from getting watered down.
- If your blender isn’t too powerful, try slightly thawing the frozen pineapple (and peaches) on the counter for 15-30 minutes before blending. The soften your fruit, the easier it is on your blend to puree everything.
- Adjust the liquid last. Start by blending everything together, then add more liquid only if needed. This helps you control the thickness and keep the smoothie rich and satisfying.

These simple swaps let you tailor the smoothie to your needs while keeping it refreshing, balanced, and full of tropical flavor.
- Swap coconut yogurt: To get the yummy coconut flavor without buying yogurt, you can swap coconut yogurt with full-fat coconut milk.
- Change the liquid base: Most of my tropical smoothies use water as the base, but for this recipe I switched things up and used the entire can of pineapple in juice to deepen the flavor and help with blending. If you’re keeping sugar lower, swap the juice for coconut water or plain water. This smoothie isn’t short on flavor, so water still works beautifully.
- Add frozen cauliflower for balance: One of the easiest ways to steady the natural sugar in fruit is by adding frozen cauliflower like I do in my strawberry banana smoothie. Riced or florets blend easily and add fiber, which helps your body process sugars more smoothly. Pineapple’s bold flavor also helps mellow cauliflower’s taste.
- Boost fiber and staying power: Add chia seeds or ground flaxseed to make the smoothie more filling without changing the flavor or texture too much like I do in my chia seed smoothie.

This was so refreshing. I taste tested this before adding the yogurt. I used a plain coconut milk yogurt since that was in my fridge. It added a creaminess to this smoothie that made it feel more dessert like.

Made this with all frozen pineapple (no canned on hand), water, and vanilla cashew yogurt. A little sweeter than my normal smoothies but so good! I could easy add spinach to it to cut down on the sweetness too.
