Hi, I have been doing your smoothies that I found in womens world but I have a question about the plant based protein powder, what is the best one to use and is it good for myself that is over 50 and also can my husband use the same kind?

    Hi Kelly,

YAY! We’re so excited to hear you read Jadah’s article in Women’s World. Looking to give your smoothie a protein boost? We love reaching for plant-based protein powders like hemp or pea protein. One of our favorite brands in Nutiva, check out their hemp protein powder here…

Plant-based protein is a great option for men + women. Worried about your age? It’s always great to discuss any diet changes with your physician before adding them!

    Reach out with any questions!

Since this is suggested for weight loss, is this kiwi berry punch a meal replacement smoothie, or would I need to add more protein?

  4. SGS Rawkstar

    May 20th, 2016 at 6:32 am

    Hi Angelle,

Great question! When using this recipe as a meal replacement, adding protein is a great option to ensure you’re fueling your body with a complete meal. Learn more about our favorite meal replacement booster combos here…

  6. SGS Rawkstar

    May 23rd, 2016 at 7:31 am

    Hi Sissy,

Can’t eat bananas? No worries! Swap in mango, papaya, pears, unsweetened applesauce, nut butters, chia seeds, fresh dates, or avocado (won’t add sweetness, but the creaminess we love).

Can I substitute kale for spinach in your recipes? I usually buy one or the other, not both when shopping since I’m the only one that eats it.

    Hi Jane!

Absolutely! We like to think of our recipes simply as suggestions :). Totally feel free to use any leafy green you love!

Could I replace the avocado for almond butter and it still be a good weight loss option? Thank.

  10. SGS Rawkstar

    July 5th, 2016 at 3:41 pm

    Hi Candice!

Thanks for reaching out! We love using almond butter as a source of healthy fat + protein, and it can absolutely we used instead of avocado. However, we always like to remind our community members that, even though weight loss can be a happy side effect of incorporating green smoothies into your diet, it does not happen in the same way for everyone. Weight loss is dependent on so many factors (age, metabolism, level of physical activity, etc.), and can be a complicated issue. Consequently, we like to encourage people to focus on creating healthy habits to last a lifetime as opposed to numbers on the scale. Any long lasting change takes time, and healthy eating is no exception. If you stick with it, you’ll eventually see results :).

What do you think of adding medium tofu to the smoothies for protein?

I struggle with eating at least 3 meals which prevents me from losing weight and sometime causes gain. I’m finding having a smoothie in the morning makes me hungry therefore I eat lunch as well.

I would prefer a smoothie for breakfast and lunch but fear I’m not getting enough protein as I don’t use any powders.

    Would tofu do the trick?

    July 12th, 2016 at 10:32 am

    Hi Sherry!

Thanks for reaching out! You can totally add tofu to your smoothie :). If using your smoothie as a meal replacement, we always recommend adding some healthy fat + protein. Here are some of our favorite combos!

just wondering. Why does some smoothie combinations just doesn’t work out “taste right”? I use the correct ingredients. I’m guessing it is our taste buds. We love a chocolate banana peanut butter smoothie with avocado, protein powder and almond milk with spinach, beets or kale. But some combinations like strawberry banana pinapple with spinach, protein powder and avocado just doesn’t taste sweet like fruity. or we tried a cinnamon bun smoothie this morning with one banana and cinnamon, vanilla, almond milk and avocado didn’t taste like it should have. I have a vitamix. I write down recipes which we really like them so i remember the ingredients to switch off when making them.

I see a comment and response earlier in this thread…. I too want to lose weight and plan to replace (where possible) two meals a day with a smoothie. I know I need to add protein and fat – but would I then need to adjust the recipe?

    Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

  20. SGS Rawkstar

    December 15th, 2016 at 8:45 am

    Hi Ann,

Great question. The avocado in this recipe already adds a great boost of healthy fats, so you’ll just need to add a protein like hemp hearts, chia seeds, or protein powder. This will ensure you’re fueling your body with a complete meal.

The recipe says that it serves two. I have been replacing my breakfast the last few days with one serving of the smoothie, and then replacing my lunch with the other serving (while eating dinner like normal). Is this considered OK? I have had a very heavy feeling in my stomach so I’m wondering if two servings in one day is too much? Or maybe my body is still getting used to a healthier diet. Any recommendations? Thanks!
