Cacao (unsweetened raw cocoa powder) is the perfect ingredient to add to green smoothies when chocolate-y cravings hit, but we love it for more than just its taste. Cacao is high in phenols, which means this smooth + rich superfood helps to prevent clogging of arteries in your body. Bottom line? Cacao keeps your heart beating strong for the long haul!

Red Velvet Green Smoothie

Description

Give your heart a healthy boost with cacao (unsweetened cocoa) in this green smoothie recipe. Serve it in a fancy glass with two straws so you and your loved one can enjoy it together!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh spinach
  • 2 cups coconut milk (unsweetened)
  • 2 cups strawberries
  • 4 dates (pitted)
  • ¼ cup raw or cooked beets (diced)
  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Coconut whipped cream on top (optional)

Instructions

  1. Blend spinach and coconut milk until smooth.
  2. Add remaining ingredients, and blend until smooth. Top with a dollop of coconut whipped cream, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

*Use frozen fruit to make smoothie cold.

      Allergic to coconut milk? No worries! Swap in another dairy-free milk you love. One of my favorites is almond milk!
