Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie Recipe
If you’re looking to enjoy this layered smoothie with family and friends, then look for some clear glass jars for serving, so you can still see the colors. You could also turn these into the classic red, white, and blue popsicles if you wanted!
Berries are giving the full court press right now since it’s summer. Buy all the fresh ones you can since they will bring the most flavor + color. Yet if you need to get frozen fruit, then go for it! Frozen fruit is picked at the peak ripeness, then frozen quickly to preserve the most nutrients. I love berries because they are low in sugar as well as full of antioxidants and fiber. So fresh or frozen, you can’t go wrong with the berries in this strawberry blueberry smoothie!
Easy Ingredient Swaps
If pomegranate juice isn’t readily available to you, then go for another red, 100% juice option (dark cherry is great!). If the sugar content, though all natural, is a little high for your liking, then swap 1 banana in the red or blue layer for 1 cup frozen white cauliflower. This will keep the colors the same as well as the creaminess of the strawberry blueberry smoothie, but cut back on the sugar content.
If strawberries aren’t your thing, then go for another red berry: red raspberries will turn this a little more pink, and cherries will deepen the red color.
Swap out the spirulina powder (purely for color!) for butterfly pea powder to achieve the same blue effect.
How to Make a Layered Smoothie
While you could take all the ingredients for this smoothie and blend them together…. you’d have a brown smoothie that isn’t very festive. So With a little effort (and rinsing), you can have a super creative-looking yet low effort food that will shine at your next cookout.
Since smoothies are thick, it should be fairly easy to layer this strawberry blueberry smoothie. Just evenly distribute each smoothie pour, so the layers stay separate.
If you want to get super fancy, then try doing thinner layers, and more of them, to create a multi-striped effect. Love the layered smoothie look? Then try this rainbow smoothie recipe next!

I attempted this one on 7-4-24. It tasted so good. Mine was not as pretty as the picture though.
What a fun recipe! I did this in small clear cups and it went a long way as a ‘shooter’ type dessert.
Such a fun recipe to share on holidays! My kids loved this recipe!
This is such a great idea! I did 1/2 banana for 2 of the layers (white and red) then 1/4 cup each of cauliflower to cut out 1 whole banana.
Wow, 3 bananas?! Thats a lot of sugar!
Looks yummy though.
Hi Julie! You can def make a lower sugar option by swapping out some of the banana for avocado. You’ll get the same creaminess without the added sugar.
Made it for Independence Day! Absolutely Delicious! Neighbors were impressed!
How do I make or where do I get the coconut cream? I looked at Safeway and Walmart and only found coconut milk or water? TIA
An easy way to get coconut cream is to purchase canned coconut milk, which is widely available in stores. Be sure not to shake it and just open the can. The cream will have separated from the rest of the milk and risen to the top. Scoop out the thick cream part from the top of your can and voila! Coconut cream!
If I donโt like coconut what can I substitute?
Hi Alice! The coconut cream in this recipe could be swapped out for a high-fat milk of your choice, whipping cream or heavy cream. Of course, all of those are traditional dairy options. If you’d like to keep it plant based, you could first blend a plant based milk like oat with some avocado to make it thicker and creamier. Then finish the layer as instructed by adding banana. Happy blending!
