Apple Pie Warm Smoothie

A warm apple smoothie that tastes like pie. Does it get any better than this?! Winter weather calls for this warm apple smoothie recipe.

One of our SGS team’s favorite smoothies is Dan’s (Famous) Apple Pie Warm Smoothie. It’s a favorite of our community – and for good reason – it’s incredibly delicious! When fall comes around and a lot of fresh fruits aren’t available, it’s nice to have a few apple smoothie recipes in your back pocket to pull out. This Warm Apple Pie Green Smoothie is a take on Dan’s Apple Pie. It has some rolled oats added in for extra fiber and to make it thick and creamy.

Warm Apple Pie Green Smoothie

Green apples are on the tart side, so we’ve added in a few dates to sweeten things up. If you prefer a different type of apple, adjust the sweetness accordingly. But the tangy green apple with the spices makes this taste just like a slice of warm apple pie. You’ll love it!

Apple Pie Green Smoothie with oats

This warm, comforting smoothie is full of iron, dietary fiber, and vitamin C. Be sure to wash the apple well and leave the peel on for extra nutrients!

Apple Pie Warm Smoothie

All of the goodness of fall is contained in this yummy, apple pie warm smoothie that is packed with spinach, apples, and a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 2 tbs rolled oats
  • 2 medjool dates - pitted
  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 apple - cored and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • pinch ground nutmeg

Instructions

  • b hot water, oats, and dates into the blender. Let stand 5-10 minutes.
  • Next add the remaining ingredients. Blend on low speed, increasing speed until very smooth. If using a high speed blender, continue blending using the soup function or high speed, until smoothie is hot.
  • Pour into mugs and drink immediately. Sprinkle the top with extra cinnamon and nutmeg, if desired.

Notes

Notes: Use caution when blending hot liquids. Be sure to let the lid vent so the liquid doesn't leak and splatter. Always start blending on lowest speed, working up to high speed until smooth. Cooked oatmeal can also be used in place of the rolled oats. Simply measure out 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal (preferably unsweetened) and add to the blender along with the other ingredients.

    Sounds delicious! Love making your smoothies. Can I add chia seeds to all my smoothies? If so how to do it? Can I just pour them in blender? Do I need to do something with them before I add?
    Also, Can I use frozen spinach?

    The recipe says it yields one smoothie, but in one of the comments you say it yields two smoothies. Which is correct?

      Hey Kate- We used to list the smoothie ingredient amounts for two servings but have recently changed it so our recipes now make one serving. The recipe is correct and the comment is outdated. 🙂

    Hi, I haven’t tried this recipe yet. I am a little concerned about using hot water in a blender as some blender guides don’t allow it. Is there another way around it?

      Hi Titi,

      Love your question! And yes, some blenders are made for blending hot liquids and some aren’t. If you have a blender, that is not ok to blend in when dealing with heat or steam, you can always heat this smoothie on your stovetop after blending everything together.

      Blenders not to use are personal sized blenders, that don’t have anywhere for steam to escape. Other blenders, you can remove the center portion + place a tea towel on top while blending. This prevents splatters + allows steam to escape.

    Hello, I have two questions please ..how many does the apple smoothie feed and can I make this in my old George Foreman Mix N Go….in which I have been making green smoothies with kale and spinach from my garden for many years. I presume I will have to heat the made smoothie in the microwave. …thanks, Bev

      Thanks for blendin’ with us! This smoothie makes 2 servings! And yes, you can totally make this recipe in your Mix N’ Go. Based on the container size, you may find that you need to halve our recipe + add a little extra liquid base to ensure everything blends smoothly. Also, because the Mix N’ Go doesn’t have anywhere to vent steam – make sure + heat your smoothie after blending.

      Medjool dates are just a variety of date :). We love them because they’re super sweet and are found at most grocery stores!

  6. Can I leave the cinnamon out of it? I recently found out that smoothies exist and I must say that I love them!!
