Healthy Strawberry Banana Smoothie

By: Jen Hansard | last Updated: 12.17.2018 | COMMENTS: 68

The most popular smoothie combo might be strawberry banana. It’s a blender classic! Our Healthy Strawberry Banana Smoothie includes iron-rich spinach and is completely plant-based.

When recommending recipes to anyone new to green smoothies, I always recommend Beginner’s Luck, but also any simple smoothie with familiar flavors. Strawberry banana smoothies are a favorite of many, which is why I wanted to create a healthy strawberry banana smoothie that was dairy-free and plant-powered.

The other thing I recommend to beginners is to invest in a strong blender (when possible). Actually, right now I’ve teamed up with Vitamix to offer my absolute favorite blender at a wallet-friendly price. Normally the strongest, professional-grade blenders cost over $400. But this blender is available for under $300 and includes shipping free! You will need to add it to your cart to see the special pricing. Worth the investment when you are ready!

What is The Best Time of Day To Drink a Green Smoothie?

We get this question a lot. The answer is simple: drink your smoothie when you feel like it best fits into your day.

Some of our team love a green smoothie as a breakfast meal replacement. Others drink a green smoothie once or twice a day as a snack.

If you do use a green smoothie to replace a meal, please read this post as a guide. You’ll want to add in extra protein and healthy fats to make your smoothie more filling.

Strawberry and Banana: A Smoothie Dream Team

Strawberries and bananas are both nutritional powerhouses, and the two flavors pair well together. Banana can be overpowering sometimes, but combined with strawberry, it’s almost like they become one flavor.

Bananas and strawberries are both low glycemic fruits. They contain heart healthy dietary fiber that also keeps the bowels moving smoothly. The vitamin C in both fruits helps the body better absorb the iron in the spinach. Both strawberries and bananas can help with weight management and blood sugar regulation.

Strawberries, particularly if you didn’t pick them fresh from your garden, can be on the tart side. The sweetness of the banana balances out the tartness just right. Bananas also make smoothies extra creamy.

And if you’re not a fan of bananas or have an allergy…bananas can easily be substituted with avocado or any of the suggestions found in this post.

  1. Ellie says:

What would be the net calories per serving for this smoothie? And can i replace almond milk with soy or coconut milk?

    • SGS Rawkstar Jess says:

Hey Ellie! There are 145 calories per serving for this smoothie. For additional nutrition info, check the Nutrition Facts directly below the recipe. You can use any type of liquid base you choose. Plant-based milks we often use are almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk, and cashew milk. (We prefer to stay away from soy milk as soy is a common allergen.) Happy blending! 🙂

  2. Sarah Boone says:

could i blend this in a nutribullet?

    • SGS Rawkstar Jess says:

Sarah, our smoothies are meant to be blended in any blender out there! Many people in our community have and love Nutribullets. 🙂

  3. Amy says:

Correct if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure bananas are high glycemic index. My trainer never wanted me eating these in the morning because of that. Hope this helps

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Amy,

Bananas are actually known to be low on the GI scale and their GI value is only a 51.

      Hope that helps!

This is one of my all time favorite smoothies. When I am craving chocolate, I’ll add chocolate protein powder to it for an added kick.

  9. Meagan says:

I used frozen strawberries…I hate frozen strawberries. They have zero flavor. I added a beet to give it flavor. Next time I make, I’ll have to make it with fresh strawberries & then it might be a 5

  10. Jackie says:

This was quite tasty with the banana adding a nice fullness. I think this would be really nice with some fresh sunshine ripened strawberries when the summer arrives!

  11. Patti says:

I loved this one! I love the creaminess of the banana!
I must admit, I don’t measure now, just grab handfuls, 1/2 handfuls, it’s all good!

  21. Sue says:

Loving all these smoothies. Added chia seeds and coconut oil to this one for more of a meal replacement. I don’t know why but this one wasn’t green. More of a dark berry color – maybe it was the frozen strawberries I used??

  22. Liz says:

Not sure if the frozen strawberries were just tasteless or what, but didn’t like this, seemed washed out 🙁

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Liz,

Sometimes if the fruit is perfectly ripe they do not give off a nice taste and can even be bitter. You can check out these all natural sweeteners that we like to recommend:
