This Clear Skin Smoothie became a daily ritual when my skin was rebelling against me. If you’ve ever stared at your skin wondering what happened overnight (again), you’re not alone. I’ve been there—with hormonal acne, dullness, and those mysterious splotches on my arms that even my dermatologist couldn’t explain. After years of testing every product under the sun, I finally realized the answer wasn’t in a bottle—it was in my blender.

I reach for this one when I want something refreshing and hydrating, and it’s a favorite among my creamy avocado smoothies for that reason. Try my Mango Spinach Smoothie next for another tropical, avocado-boosted blend, or my Creamy Brain Food Smoothie for a different kind of nutrient boost.

Ingredients Notes

This isn’t just a green smoothie—it’s a skin glow smoothie made with nutrient-dense, plant-based ingredients that leave you feeling hydrated, refreshed, and glowing from the inside out. It’s hydrating, naturally sweet, easy to digest, and just an all-around feel-good sip. It’s also a great option if you enjoy my collection of low-sugar smoothies.

Here’s what makes this one of my favorite glow-getting combos:

  • Spinach: This leafy green vegetable blends in seamlessly (you won’t taste it, promise) while packing this smoothie with nourishing vitamins.
  • Coconut water: Nature’s hydrator. It’s light, refreshing, and the perfect base for a smoothie that feels like a tropical treat.
  • Pineapple: Sweet, juicy, and naturally freezes into the creamiest texture — it’s what makes this smoothie taste like dessert.
  • Avocado: Adds healthy fats and a rich, creamy texture that makes this smoothie feel indulgent. Follow my how to cut an avocado guide to make this easy.
  • Collagen: I use Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides for an extra boost — it blends in undetected and is a simple way to round out this smoothie’s nutrition.

Can Smoothies Help with Acne?

Short answer? A smoothie alone isn’t a magic fix. But when you learn how to make a smoothie with skin-loving ingredients—and pair it with good hydration, sleep, and less processed food—it becomes one more piece of a routine that makes you feel (and look) your best. Here’s what I’ve personally noticed since making this a daily habit:

  • My skin feels clearer. I started noticing a difference after my first 21-Day Cleanse, and this smoothie has been part of my daily rhythm ever since.
  • My nails feel stronger. I didn’t even realize how brittle they’d gotten until I noticed they’d stopped breaking. I’d guess the collagen I add plays a role here too.
  • I sleep better. Between the hydration and cutting back on processed food, I just feel more balanced overall—and that shows up in my sleep.
  • I found new passions. I started growing my own herbs, cooking more at home, and building habits that support my whole life—not just my skin.

This isn’t a magic wand, and I’m not a dermatologist—just someone who’s spent over a decade building daily habits around real, whole-food nutrition and sharing what’s worked for me and thousands of women in our community. If you’ve been feeling stuck, dull, or just want a nourishing new habit, this smoothie is a great place to start.

How to Make a Clear Skin Smoothie

Green smoothies are an easy habit because they take five minutes to put together. Since this smoothie has leafy greens, here’s how I use the two-blend method for a creamy result with any blender:

  1. Blend spinach and coconut water until there are no leafy chunks. Stop and scrape down the sides as needed to get every last chunk. If you’re using one of the recommended blenders for smoothies, you can combine steps 1 and 2.
  2. Add remaining ingredients, including any boosters, and blend again until smooth. Depending on the type of blender you have, be patient! This may take a minute or two to really break down the ingredients.
  3. Enjoy! I try to drink my smoothies within 15 minutes of blending, yet it’s totally okay to put them in the fridge to enjoy later.

If you are using some frozen ingredients you should get a refreshingly cool smoothie. If not, feel free to stick a blended smoothie in the fridge to chill or pour over ice.

When it comes to smoothies for clear skin, consistency is everything. Your skin is always working to detox, repair, and glow—it just needs the right fuel to do it. You don’t need an expensive skincare routine to get glowing (my dermatologist has always told me that).

Recipe Notes

  • Freeze your pineapple ahead of time for the creamiest, coldest blend — no ice needed.
  • Ripe avocado is key here. It’s what gives this smoothie its silky, milkshake-like texture.
  • Swap coconut water for plain water in a pinch, but the coconut water adds a subtle sweetness that makes this one feel extra tropical.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours — give it a good shake before drinking.

Common Questions

Can I make this smoothie ahead of time?

Yep! Blend it up and pour it into a sealed mason jar, then pop it in the fridge for up to 24 hours. The avocado and spinach may cause a little separation as it sits, so just give it a good shake (lid on tight!) before you drink it. If you’re meal-prepping for the week, we’d still recommend drinking your Clear Skin Smoothie within a day for the best texture and flavor — smoothies are always tastiest fresh.

What can I use instead of collagen peptides?

Totally optional — this smoothie is delicious with or without it. If you skip it, you won’t need to adjust anything else in the recipe. Want an extra boost? Swap in your favorite plant-based protein powder, or try a scoop of vanilla or unflavored collagen if that’s what you have on hand. Just keep in mind flavored powders can change the taste a bit, so start with a little and adjust to your liking.

Can I use fresh pineapple instead of frozen?

Absolutely. Frozen pineapple is what gives this Clear Skin Smoothie its thick, cold, milkshake-like texture without watering it down, so if you’re using fresh, just toss in a handful of ice cubes to compensate. You can also freeze your own fresh pineapple chunks ahead of time — spread them on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag for smoothie-ready pineapple anytime.

Is this smoothie kid-friendly?

Definitely — this Clear Skin Smoothie is one of our go-to “sneaky greens” recipes. The pineapple’s natural sweetness completely masks the spinach, so most kids won’t even notice it’s in there. If your little one is new to green smoothies, start by blending in a smaller handful of spinach and work your way up to the full amount as they get used to it.

Can I double the clear skin smoothie recipe?

Yes! Just double every ingredient listed. If your blender is on the smaller side, we’d recommend blending in two batches rather than cramming it all in at once — this keeps everything blending smoothly and evenly, especially with the avocado, so you don’t end up with any chunky bits at the bottom.

How would I be able to use this smoothie on my face, how long do I wait till I wash it off?

    1. Hey there Anastasia! Interesting question! Actually Jen was saying that tongue and cheek. She just wanted to emphasize that the ingredients are so clean and helpful to the skin. We hope you’ve been blending and noticing some helpful differences. 🙂

    1. You can totally use coconut milk here, although we’d def recommend it be plain and unsweetened if possible.

I’ve tried this smoothie and love it! How often is it advised to drink for clear skin benefits? I wouldn’t say I have severe acne but I get little blemishes here and there which always add to insecurity.. it taste’s so good although I did substitute the coconut water for almond milk as my local shop didn’t have any

    1. Any of our smoothies can be blended as often as every day if you’d like when working on a specific condition like acne. However, we’d highly recommend you switch up the greens regularly in that smoothie to avoid an unhealthy build up of alkaloids.
