There was a time when I made this Strawberry Banana Green Smoothie almost every day for a year. I guess I am kinda like my dad— when you find something that works, why change it up? It only has five ingredients (and one being water), doesn’t take much food prep, and tastes very yummy (seriously).

It also uses ingredients that are easy to find all year round in the produce + freezer sections of most grocery stores. The key to make this healthy green smoothie habit stick, is making it easy and affordable. This Strawberry Banana Smoothie hits both of those on the head.

My kids even ask for it! It’s such a proud moment as a parent when kids are craving fruits and veggies over processed foods.

The pic above is of my daughter Clare when she was 3 years old. She would ask for this smoothie all the time! I get a little teary eyed seeing her this little— she started 5th grade this year!!! Now, my kids wanting a spinach smoothie doesn’t happen every day, but it does still happen a LOT! Hope you enjoy one of my tried and true green smoothie recipes!

The reason why I combine quite a few fruits into this smoothie is to make sure we’re getting a variety of vitamins and minerals. My whole goal with green smoothies is to treat them as a daily vitamin to keep our immune systems strong and our body healthy. It’s been 8 years of drinking these now, and we’re still going strong!

 Tip: Thanks to the florida-grown blueberries, this green smoothie is more like a purple smoothie, which is great for kids and those who are afraid of the “green” color.

Strawberry Banana Green Smoothie

Description

We’ve combined four of our favorite fruits for this smoothie – and it’s a yummy one! The flavors are bright and sweet, and it’s full of fruity goodness. As far as nutrition goes, this smoothie offers up a bundle of antioxidants from vitamin C-rich oranges and strawberries, to potassium-loaded bananas, and anthrocyanin-packed blueberries. And don’t forget all the vitamin K and iron in the spinach. 


Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 cups spinach (fresh)
  • 2 oranges (peeled and seeded)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup strawberries*
  • 1 cup blueberries*
  • 2 bananas

Instructions

  1. Blend spinach, orange juice and water until smooth.
  2. Next add the remaining fruits and blend again.

Notes

*Use frozen strawberries and/or blueberries to make smoothie cold. **You can also use 3/4 cup water and 3/4 cup orange juice in place of the oranges and 1/2 cup water.

    I make a smoothie every day for me and my son for breakfast.
    2 bananas
    2 cups strawberries
    2 apples
    16 oz 1% milk
    4 eggs
    1 cup of ice.

    What a great recipe. My 5 year old cane up and asked if I put spinach in the smoothie and when I said yes she turned up her nose. I then told her everything else I put in and she smiled and said she would try it. She drank the whole thing and loved it. That is a winner in my book as she is a picky eater (one of my worst – and I have another child that picks the cottage cheese curds out of lasagna, she tops him).
